ALSAfirewire broken

Hello everyone. 2 Firewire problems with ALSAfirewire. 1. Firewire Midi was working fine with kernel 5.10 with Reaper. Then obviously a lot changed with the Firewire Stack. The midi output from Reaper has not changed according to it's developer - Justin. The problem is direct ALSA-Midi. We tested the midi app from www.alsa-project.org/alsa-doc/alsa-lib/_2test_2rawmidi_8c-example.html#a0 yesterday and it freezes Debian and just breaks Arch with kernel 6.15 Thread at Reaper Bugs forum: https://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=300278 Has low level ALSA-Midi API changed? 2. If using Pipewire-Jack with ALSAfirewire the Reaper midi output works fine but unfortunately Pipewire adds 90ms delay when playing back through any Firewire interface compared with an onboard soundcard. The pipewire dev Wim Tayman, says it's ALSAfirewire fault but I proved it is not - see thread: https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/pipewire/pipewire/-/issues?show=eyJpaWQiOiI0… The ALSA recording and playback is confirmed by my tests to be working under 10ms RTT with Echo, Motu and Bebop interfaces. Higher-level utils (`pavucontrol`, `pw-dump`, etc.) report that the corresponding "sink" is not present (until I reset the output). Internal Microphone not working

alsa-project/alsa-lib issue #464 was opened from crashthepose: After updating my computer my internal microphone is not working. Originally when I went to my Audio settings it would say under Input "headset unplugged". I was able to go into the HDAjackretask interface and override one of the pins where now the internal microphone is showing on the input list but now I only hear static noise. alsa-project/alsa-utils issue #304 was opened from gharig: Hello Alsa-Dev, I hope that I’m writing to the proper place to report a problem, please advise if not… I’m not able to produce 20kHz sine wav with speaker-test 1.2.13 Running on Tinycore 16.0 . Below is what I submitted to Tinycore Team, and they suggested that I contact you with my findings. The hardware I’m using is Winsystems E3825 dual-core, 1.33GHz SATA 2.0 channel mSATA socket (shared with miniPCIe) 2 GB of Soldered Down DDR3 [https://winsystems.com/product/ppm-c407/](url) Tinycore Team; My problem today is that speaker-test does not produce a 20kHz sine wave on Tinycore 16.0 to the line out. speaker-test does produce something just not a 20kHz sine wave. Code: ` speaker-test -t sine -f 20000 -X -l 0` However, using the exact same hardware running Ubuntu 20.24 or 22.04 the following code works and a 20kHz sine wave is produced. The difference being that the alsa versions are different between the 3 Operating Systems. Tinycore 16.0 Alsa version is 1.2.13 - failure Ubuntu 20.04 Alsa version is 1.2.2 - success Ubuntu 22.04 Alsa version is 1.2.6 - success Through my testing, starting at 8000 Hz, and incrementing by 1000 Hz, speaker-test does produce a sine wave, until I went over 15000 Hz then no more sine wave. :) :) Code: ``` speaker-test -t sine -f 8000 -X -l 0 speaker-test -t sine -f 15000 -X -l 0 ``` :( Code: ` speaker-test -t sine -f 16000 -X -l 0` The work around for the time being is to configure speaker-test to play a 20kHz wav file, this dose work and produces a beautiful sine wav :) Code: ` speaker-test -t wav -f /opt/20kHz.wav -l 0` Now for the people who will say why on earth do you want to produce a sound that no one can hear, and my reply is "Exactly". I send the 20kHz sine wav across the audio line as a way to supervise that the audio line is fully functioning. The second the 20kHz tone stops we are notified and send someone out to fix the problem, whether it be hardware or someone accidentality cuts the wire, we want to know. Basically the 20 kHz sine wave does not interferer with paging in the system. My first thoughts on why the 20 kHz sine is not produced, is because of missing driver. But I made sure that every sound driver that was loaded on Ubuntu was loaded on Tinycore. Code: ` sudo modprobe snd_seq_midi snd_seq_midi_event snd_intel_dspcfg` I also loaded AlsaPlugins.tcz just incase, but that did not make a difference. Code: ` tceload -i alsa-plugins.tcz` The last thing I tried after was to set the format sample -F parameter to 96000 Code: `speaker-test -t sine -f 20000 -X -l 0 -F 96000` At first when I did this I thought I was so smart. A sine wave appeared, however I did not have a speaker hooked up, but when the speaker got plugged in I heard a high pitched noise. So the parameter affected the output but not the desired output that I need. Another thought that pass through my mind is could this be a configuration setting during the build of alsa that need to be turned on. After all 15000 Hz does work. The patch ASoC: tlv320aic32x4: Model CODEC_CLKIN in CCF has been applied to the asoc tree at https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/broonie/sound.git All being well this means that it will be integrated into the linux-next tree (usually sometime in the next 24 hours) and sent to Linus during the next merge window (or sooner if it is a bug fix), however if problems are discovered then the patch may be dropped or reverted. Some Qualcomm X1E laptops have only two speakers. Regardless whether this sound card driver is suitable for them (we could re-use one for some older SoC), we should set reasonable channel map depending on the number of channels, not always 4-speaker setup. This change is necessary for bringing audio support on Lenovo Thinkpad T14s with Qualcomm X1E78100 and only two speakers. Alsa speaker-test dose not generate 20kHz Sine Wav

Hello Alsa-Dev, I hope that I'm writing to the proper place to report a problem, please advise if not... I'm not able to produce 20kHz sine wav with speaker-test 1.2.13 Running on Tinycore 16.0 . Below is what I submitted to Tinycore Team, and they suggested that I contact you with my findings. The hardware I'm using is Winsystems E3825 dual-core, 1.33GHz SATA 2.0 channel mSATA socket (shared with miniPCIe) 2 GB of Soldered Down DDR3 Link to product: https://winsystems.com/product/ppm-c407/ Tinycore Team; My problem today is that speaker-test does not produce a 20kHz sine wave on Tinycore 16.0 to the line out. speaker-test does produce something just not a 20kHz sine wave. Code: speaker-test -t sine -f 20000 -X -l 0 However, using the exact same hardware running Ubuntu 20.24 or 22.04 the following code works and a 20kHz sine wave is produced. The difference being that the alsa versions are different between the 3 Operating Systems. Tinycore 16.0 Alsa version is 1.2.13 - failure Ubuntu 20.04 Alsa version is 1.2.2 - success Ubuntu 22.04 Alsa version is 1.2.6 - success Through my testing, starting at 8000 Hz, and incrementing by 1000 Hz, speaker-test does produce a sine wave, until I went over 15000 Hz then no more sine wave. :) :) Code: speaker-test -t sine -f 8000 -X -l 0 speaker-test -t sine -f 15000 -X -l 0 :( Code: speaker-test -t sine -f 16000 -X -l 0 The work around for the time being is to configure speaker-test to play a 20kHz wav file, this dose work and produces a beautiful sine wav :) Code: speaker-test -t wav -f /opt/20kHz.wav -l 0 Now for the people who will say why on earth do you want to produce a sound that no one can hear, and my reply is "Exactly". I send the 20kHz sine wav across the audio line as a way to supervise that the audio line is fully functioning. The second the 20kHz tone stops we are notified and send someone out to fix the problem, whether it be hardware or someone accidentality cuts the wire, we want to know. Basically the 20 kHz sine wave does not interferer with paging in the system. My first thoughts on why the 20 kHz sine is not produced, is because of missing driver. But I made sure that every sound driver that was loaded on Ubuntu was loaded on Tinycore. Code: sudo modprobe snd_seq_midi snd_seq_midi_event snd_intel_dspcfg I also loaded AlsaPlugins.tcz just incase, but that did not make a difference. Code: tceload -i alsa-plugins.tcz The last thing I tried after was to set the format sample -F parameter to 96000 Code: speaker-test -t sine -f 20000 -X -l 0 -F 96000 At first when I did this I thought I was so smart. A sine wave appeared, however I did not have a speaker hooked up, but when the speaker got plugged in I heard a high pitched noise. So the parameter affected the output but not the desired output that I need. Another thought that pass through my mind is could this be a configuration setting during the build of alsa that need to be turned on. After all 15000 Hz does work. Reinstalled firmware (alsa-sof-firmware), alsa-card-profiles, alsa-ucm-conf. Checked for conflicting blacklist or modprobe options. Verified that everything works as expected with snd_hda_intel legacy driver (dsp_driver=1), but I want to use SOF Tried updating to the latest Fedora 42 and checked for updates in alsa-card-profiles/ucm-conf. Expected: "analog-stereo" (or similar) profile should be available for the internal sound card (sof-hda-dsp) so that both speakers and microphones can be used in a standard desktop configuration. Automatic profile switching should work (i.e., plugging in headphones/switching between speakers and headphones, using internal mic). Actual: Only "pro-audio" and "off" profiles are available. Manual switching is possible in "pro-audio", but lacks the convenience and user experience of standard profiles. No "analog-stereo", "analog-duplex" or similar options are listed. I'm using Ubuntu 24.04.2 LTS with Wayland on an iMac 27" (2017) equipped with the Cirrus Logic CS8409 audio codec. After compiling the driver manually (https://github.com/egorenar/snd-hda-codec-cs8409), ALSA detects the audio device correctly and it works properly with PipeWire and PulseAudio. Lenovo Yoga 7 2-in-1 16AKP10 volume control bug

Hello I would like to report a bug for the brand new Lenovo Yoga 7 2-in-1 16AKP10. It has the same sound chip and also the same volume control bug as several older models. I thus assume that the same workaround, written by Philipp Jungkamp and later by Pascal Gross, will also work for this model. There are several lines with laptops that apply this workaround, for example this line in linux/sound/pci/hda/patch_realtek.c: SND_PCI_QUIRK(0x17aa, 0x3801, "Lenovo Yoga9 14IAP7", ALC287_FIXUP_YOGA9_14IAP7_BASS_SPK_PIN) Could you please add this line for my model? SND_PCI_QUIRK(0x????, 0x????, "Lenovo Yoga 7 2-in-1 16AKP10", ALC287_FIXUP_YOGA9_14IAP7_BASS_SPK_PIN), Please advise on how to determine the first two parameters. [PATCH v2] ALSA: hda/tas2781: Fix calibration data parser issue

We will copy calibration data from position behind to front. We has created a variable (tmp_val) point on top of calibration data buffer, and tmp_val[1] is max of node number in original calibration data structure, it will be overwritten after first data copy, so can't be used as max node number check in for loop. So we create a new variable to save max of node number (tmp_val[1]), used to check if max node number was reached in for loop. And a point need to be increased to point at calibration data in node. Data saved position also need to be increased one byte. alsa-project/alsa-lib pull request #463 was opened from atsampson: The `midifile` library used by the `playmidi1` program dates from 1989, and used pre-ANSI function definitions and prototypes. GCC 15 now defaults to C23 where `()` means the same as `(void)` in prototypes, which causes type mismatch errors. Update the code to use ANSI function definitions and prototypes, so it'll compile happily as anything from ANSI C to C23. This revealed that `playmidi1`'s `do_tempo` had the wrong argument type, so correct that as well. Fixes #452. [BUG] Mackie DLZ Creator XS – USB Audio: write error -77 after accepted hw_params

Hi ALSA devs, I'm reporting an issue with the Mackie DLZ Creator XS USB audio device on Linux (tested on Ubuntu 24.04 and 25.05 with kernel 6.8+). The device is detected correctly via ALSA (card 2: XS), but as soon as playback is initiated – whether via `aplay` or `speaker-test` – it disconnects with `write error: -77, File descriptor in bad state`. Relevant kernel logs show: usb 3-7: Product: DLZ Creator XS usb 3-7: Manufacturer: LOUD Audio, LLC usb 3-7: USB disconnect, device number X This occurs with and without PipeWire/udev running. I’ve created a full ALSA log with `alsa-info` and opened a Kernel Bugzilla entry: <https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=220143> Is there any known quirk or patch needed for this hardware? Request for help: Outputting audio as an I2S stream

Summary: My goal is to output audio to an ADAU1467 via I2S on Linux 6.6. I tried and then abandoned using a custom, device-specific driver. Now trying to use built-in simple-sound-card. But, driver does not initialize (probe). Don't know how to debug/fix the issue. I've been working with chapgpt extensively since I have found no other source of information on how to setup linux to output an I2S audio stream. In fact, I posted a question to a linux maillist about an issue a couple weeks ago and the reply from Lars Clausen showed output from chatgpt. In the old days folks would joke about googling something for someone. Today, I guess we can do the same WRT chatgpt. But, that question was about updating a driver. Chatgpt tells me that I shouldn't need a device-specific driver since the device is configured and controlled elsewhere. I just need to pump an audio stream into it. So, I started over with my solution; no longer working on a custom driver. Apparently, I can use the simple-sound-card and a dummy codec. But, it does not work. Maybe chatgpt is wrong and I need a device-specific driver. Or maybe my setup is wrong. I have worked with chatgpt to resolve my issues, but have hit a wall. Hoping to get help from humans now. 😊 The boot-time log (attached) shows nothing about my audio setup until the last line: platform sound-i2s: deferred probe pending I think that ‘deferred probe’ means that an initial probe failed. How can I tell what failed? What prevented it from succeeding? Would be nice if the driver told me what failed. But, there’s no error message, just an info msg that probe is pending.
