[alsa-devel] Selecting correct input device port.

As I learn't in this mailng list, a device can typically handle only one stream at a time unless it supports hardware mixing which's exposed via subdevices in ALSA What does subdevice mean for input device? Do they mark physical ports for input? If not how do I record from a specific input port? Is it automatically selected by the card? And what's 'input source' in ALSA mixer?

es1968_measure_clock uses struct timeval, which on 32-bit systems will overflow in 2038, leading to incorrect interpretation of time.This patch changes the function to use ktime_t instead of struct timeval, which implies: - no y2038: ktime_t uses a 64-bit datatype explicitly. - efficent subtraction: The earlier version computes the difference in usecs while dealing with secs and nsecs. It requires checks to see if the nsecs of stop is less than start. This patch uses a direct subtract of ktime_t and converts to usecs. - use of monotonic clock (ktime_get) over real time (do_gettimeofday), which simplifies timekeeping, as it does not have to deal with cases where stop_time is less than start_time. Hi, thinking of the problem about shared volume controls again, I stumbled on a case where your suggested solution doesn't work well. Namely, when a headphone volume is shared for two headphones (one on the laptop and one on the dock), how should it be named? One is "Headphone" and another is "Dock Headphone". That's a bit tricky. So, in the end, we need the mapping representation somehow more explicitly than the control name. Thoughts? Takashi

Greetings, I'm working on an ASoC driver (an mfd driver for an HDMI receiver chip with an accompanying codec driver for the audio capture portion, and a cpu-dai driver for the specific SoC its hooked to). I can't seem to figure out what kind of hook I need in order to fill out the snd_pcm_substream fields specifying the rate/channels/sample-format of the receiving HDMI audio stream. In this case HDMI audio (and thus the codec) supports several rates but it doesn't make sense that the codec is told what rate to capture at as the rate is dictated by the current stream the receiver is being provided. I'm thinking there is some hook I'm missing that allows the codec to fill in the params dynamically when the capture device is opened. Any pointers to how I deal with this? Thanks, Tim

dai-link params for codec-codec links were fixed. The fixed link between codec and another chip which may be another codec, baseband, bluetooth codec etc may require run time configuaration changes. This change provides an optional alsa control to select one of the params from a list of params. XTFPGA boards providean audio subsystem that consists of TI CDCE706 clock synthesizer, I2S transmitter and TLV320AIC23 audio codec. I2S transmitter has MMIO-based interface that resembles that of the OpenCores I2S transmitter. I2S transmitter is always a master on I2S bus. There's no specialized audio DMA, sample data are transferred to I2S transmitter FIFO by CPU through memory-mapped queue interface.
