Hi folks, I own an stac9227 and with latest kernel, it doesn't output any sound via front headphones. (this a is desktop) I don't want to bother you with details, etc, I will fix that myself. I have good knowledge of the device. However, the mess that is patch_sigmatel.c seems to be doubled. its huge file, and there are loads on new codecs added. I have a suggestion, to break it up into smaller files. I especially want to move all 'data' from it to header file, and sort it by model. Maybe move pin configs to separate file. Also I know that stac9200 is quite old, and uses many different support functions. I could move these in another file as well. In other words, I want to break it up into several (5 maybe) files, while not touching the code itself (I so that later maybe) Since it is quite dirty and hard work, I want to ask if you agree. Btw, half of static data can be retrieved from codec by querying it (like dac,adc,pin node ids) Best regards, Maxim Levitsky

There has been an ad1836 driver in sound/blackfin based on traditional alsa. The new driver is based on asoc. The architecture of ad1836 codec driver is very much like ad1938. [alsa-devel] [PATCH 0/2] ASoC: TWL4030: Cosmetic and PM related changes

Hello, I'm not sure, if the first patch is acceptable by ASoC standards, but: Before the patch the analog capture path strings ended up like this at the end: "Analog Left Capture Route Main mic Switch" These switches showed up in the playback tab of alsamixer, which was not nice. After the patch the strings will be like this: "Analog Left Main mic Capture Route" Which show up correctly in alsamixer as "Analog Left Main mic" under the capture tab. The second patch cleans up the output amplifier mute/un-mute by adding PGA_E to all output pins, which were handled by the twl4030_codec_mute function. Since those gain controls attached to the outputs are not in DAPM domain (yet?) and they have to be muted/turned off when they are not needed. Previously all of these (Earpiece PreDrivL/R, CarkitL/R) muted/un-muted at the same time without checking if the output actually is needed, there could be cases when the output amplifier is enabled but no actual audio data is routed there, which could leak some noise on the output. OK, that's what I thought. You need to convert the driver to use the normal device model probe methods rather than using bodges like this. See drivers like wm8731 for an example of how the conversion looks.

But with speaker-test it does work. It depends how app accesses the sound device. If the application uses "default" PCM, not "hw" or so, then it should work without changing. Or, if app uses OSS emulation over /dev/dsp, softvol doesn't work. Takashi

Hi Mark, The patch sequence adds ad1836 support based on asoc patch 1: new ad1836 codec driver based on asoc patch 2: add set_tdm_slot entry in tdm-dai to define the relationship between audio channel and tdm slot number patch 3: new board driver to connect ad1836 codec and bf5xx patch 3 depends on patch 2. Hello, I am looking at making this product use case possible: Audio samples are streamed over wire/wireless from a source device to a sink device. The streaming format is in mp3. On the source device I need to capture locally played mp3 samples and stream to the sink device. The sink device takes care of uncompressing and playback. Can we capture compressed mp3 streams directly using ALSA? It is possible to capture uncompressed PCM samples using file plug or by other means in ALSA. While it is possible to directly read from the mp3 file, I would rather grap the samples that a media player sends out because a) it takes care of timing b) I can control the media player to play/pause the stream and for playlist management. For the user it is transperent - he/she will use only the local media player to control the streaming. I am not sure if this lies in the domain of ALSA at all - as I understand once we are in ALSA we are dealing with only PCM. In such case, please give me some pointers where I can look at to make this possible. I am using mplayer, but can also look at other types (non-GUI, command-line based). Can we do this in a non-media player specific way? Thank you, Girish
