How trivial would it be to port the DICE driver from FFADO?

Hello, I'm new to these kinds of mailing lists so please forgive me if I'm doing something dumb. I would love to see Allen & Heath Zed R16 as well as Midas Venice F32 support in ALSA. Currently (at least according to libffado-2.4.4/configuration), they are supported via the DICE driver: { # Allen and Heath Zed R16. Information from Jano Svitok. vendorid = 0x0010C73F; modelid = 0x00000001; vendorname = "Midas"; modelname = "Venice F32"; driver = "DICE"; mixer = "Generic_Dice_EAP"; }, In their source code I think it's this file: http://subversion.ffado.org/browser/branches/2.4.x/libffado/src/dice/dice_e… So my question would be: How difficult would it be to port this driver (more specifically: Port it sufficiently enough to support the aforementioned devices) ? Are we talking trivial enough for someone with minimal C experience, a dedicated team of ALSA devs or something else? Thanks in advance, FN

Raising volume past 100%

After reinstalling Debian on a laptop, I once again had to face the problem of how to get volume out of the built-in speakers boosted. The last time I reinstalled, I somehow got the MATE volume control applet to let me turn the volume past 100% using the mouse wheel. Over the past two days I've been trying to rediscover what I neglected to write down. I'm already aware that by bringing up the Sound Preferences dialog, I can raise volume to 153% and no further. I also know that I can use pulseaudio-ctl(1) or pactl(1) to set the volume at any arbitrary level past 100%. I remember that I went looking for solutions other people found for this that involved editing /etc/asound.conf or ~/.asoundrc, but the best I can get with that is add an extra slider to alsamixer's display that acts as apreamplifier. I was going off of http://alien.slackbook.org/blog/adding-an-alsa-software-pre-amp-to-fix-low-….
