[PATCH alsa-ucm-conf] codecs/rt5672: Remove Intel SST specific HeadsetMic workaround
by Hans de Goede 11 Feb '21
by Hans de Goede 11 Feb '21
11 Feb '21
There used to be an issue with the HeadsetMic on BYT devices with
a rt5672 codec only being recorded on the left channel, while the
right channel recorded silence.
The ucm2/codecs/rt5672/HeadsetMic.conf contains a workaround for
this which changes the SST record-stream demuxer settings to
use "slot 0" for both the left and right channels when recording
from the HeadsetMic.
There are 2 problems with this workaround:
1. It uses SST specific mixer settings causing things to break
when using the SOF driver.
2. Files under uc2m/codecs should be architecture agnostic and should
not depend on platform dependent mixer settings such as the SST driver
mixer settings.
The problem which the workaround used to work around has since been
fixed in the kernel by switching the wire format from TDM/DSP A to I2S:
https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/commit/?…
This fix has landed in 5.8 and has been backported to all recent
stable kernel releases.
Since this is fixed in the kernel now, we can drop the workaround,
fixing the 2 problems mentioned above.
This was tested on a ThinkPad 8 tablet, which is the same device as
where the HeadsetMic problem was originally noticed.

[PATCH v5 0/7] ASoC: codecs: add support for LPASS Codec TX and RX macros
by Srinivas Kandagatla 11 Feb '21
by Srinivas Kandagatla 11 Feb '21
11 Feb '21
This patchset adds support for two Codec Macro blocks(TX and RX) available in
Qualcomm LPASS (Low Power Audio SubSystem).
There are WSA, VA, TX and RX Macros on LPASS IP, each of the Macro block
has specific connectivity like WSA Macros are intended to connect
to WSA Smart speaker codecs via SoundWire. VA Macro is intended for DMICs,
and TX/RX for Analog codecs via SoundWire like other WCD938x Codecs to provide
headphone/ear/lineout/amic/dmic etc ..
Most of the work is derived from downstream Qualcomm kernels.
Credits to various Qualcomm authors from Patrick Lai's team who have
contributed to this code.
This patchset has been tested on support to SM8250 MTP Development Board.
This board has 2 WSA881X smart speakers with onboard DMIC connected to
internal LPASS codec via WSA and VA macros respectively and WCD938x
TX and RX connected via Soundwire via TX and RX Macros reseptively.
Thanks,
srini

Some users reported the kernel WARNING with stack traces from
hdmi_pcm_close(), and it's the line checking the per_cvt->assigned
flag. This used to be a valid check in the past because the flag was
turned on/off only at opening and closing a PCM stream. Meanwhile,
since the introduction of the silent-stream mode, this flag may be
turned on/off at the monitor connection/disconnection time, which
isn't always associated with the PCM open/close. Hence this may lead
to the inconsistent per_cvt->assigned flag at closing.
As the check itself became almost useless and confuses users as if it
were a serious problem, just drop the check.

[PATCH v4 resend 00/13] MFD/extcon/ASoC: Rework arizona codec jack-detect support
by Hans de Goede 11 Feb '21
by Hans de Goede 11 Feb '21
11 Feb '21
Hi all,
Here is v4 of my series to rework the arizona codec jack-detect support
to use the snd_soc_jack helpers instead of direct extcon reporting.
This is a resend with some extra *-by tags collected and with the extcon
folks added to the "To:" list, which I somehow missed with the original
v4 posting, sorry.
This is done by reworking the extcon driver into an arizona-jackdet
library and then modifying the codec drivers to use that directly,
replacing the old separate extcon child-devices and extcon-driver.
This brings the arizona-codec jack-detect handling inline with how
all other ASoC codec driver do this. This was developed and tested on
a Lenovo Yoga Tablet 1051L with a WM5102 codec.
This was also tested by Charles Keepax, one of the Cirrus Codec folks.
This depends on the previously posted "[PATCH v4 0/5] MFD/ASoC: Add
support for Intel Bay Trail boards with WM5102 codec" series and there
are various interdependencies between the patches in this series.
Lee Jones, the MFD maintainer has agreed to take this series upstream
through the MFD tree and to provide an immutable branch for the ASoC
and extcon subsystems to merge.
Mark and extcon-maintainers may we have your ack for merging these
through the MFD tree ?

Hans

When a Slave device is resumed, it may resume the bus and restart the
enumeration. And Slave drivers will wait for initialization_complete
complete in their resume function, however initialization_complete will
complete after sdw_update_slave_status function is finished and codec
driver usually call some IO functions in the update_status callback
function.
It will become a deadlock if we use regular read/write routines during
the resuming process.
This series touches both soundwire and regmap trees.
commit fb5103f9d6ce ("regmap/SoundWire: sdw: add support for SoundWire 1.2 MBQ")
is needed for soundwire tree to complie.
On the other hands,
commit 6e06a85556f9 ("soundwire: bus: add comments to explain interrupt loop filter")
to
commit 47b8520997a8 ("soundwire: bus: only clear valid DPN interrupts")

Hey,
Linux 5.10 fails to boot on my IceLake laptop, where 5.9 worked fine.
I'm not sure whether it's a bug in ACPI or Soundwire subsystem, so I'm
sending this to both
lists. The W taint flag is because of an unrelated nouveau failure (It
was busted on 5.9, and is
still on 5.10). Full kernel log down below.
It's from a distro kernel, but I can build my own kernel with patches if needed.

[PATCH v4 0/7] ASoC: codecs: add support for LPASS Codec TX and RX macros
by Srinivas Kandagatla 10 Feb '21
by Srinivas Kandagatla 10 Feb '21
10 Feb '21
Thanks,
srini
Changes since v3:
- fixed two minor warnings reported by kernel test robot using clang

With current delayed probe implementation, sof_probe_complete is not
called in case of errors. And as this function is responsible for
decrementing runtime pm usage counter, this will result in following
problem:
- probe driver in conditions where probe will fail (to force
the condition on Intel SOF systems, set
"snd_sof_intel_hda_common.codec_mask=0")
- unload driver (runtime-pm usage_count is leaked)
- fix the issue by installing missing fw, modifying module parameters,
etc actions
- try to load driver again -> success, probe ok
-> device never enters runtime suspend
Fix the issue by storing result of delayed probe to a state variable and
providing new snd_sof_device_probe_completed() to be queried from SOF
PCI/ACPI/OF drivers.
If probe never completed successfully, runtime PM was not set up and
thus at remove(), we should not increment usage count anymore.
