Hi All, We have been open-coding x86_match_cpu() checks for enabling some SoC specific behavior in various places. The sound/soc/intel drivers used to also open-code this but this was cleaned up a while ago introducing a number of soc_intel_is_*() helpers. This series moves the definition of these helpers to a more public place and uses it in a couple of more places outside the sound tree. Mark, I know we are a bit late in the cycle, but if you can pick up patch 1/3 (assuming on one objects) for 5.16, then the rest can be applied after 5.16-rc1 is out. [alsa-devel] [PATCH v7 0/8] Fix year 2038 issue for sound subsystem

This is a series I worked on with Baolin in 2017 and 2018, but we never quite managed to finish up the last pieces. During the ALSA developer meetup at ELC-E 2018 in Edinburgh, a decision was made to go with this approach for keeping best compatibility with existing source code, and then I failed to follow up by resending the patches. Now I have patches for all remaining time_t uses in the kernel, so it's absolutely time to revisit them. I have done more review of the patches myself and found a couple of minor issues that I have fixed up, otherwise the series is still the same as before. Conceptually, the idea of these patches is: - 64-bit applications should see no changes at all, neither compile-time nor run-time. - 32-bit code compiled with a 64-bit time_t currently does not work with ALSA, and requires kernel changes and/or sound/asound.h changes - Most 32-bit code using these interfaces will work correctly on a modified kernel, with or without the uapi header changes. - 32-bit code using SNDRV_TIMER_IOCTL_TREAD requires the updated header file for 64-bit time_t support - 32-bit i386 user space with 64-bit time_t is broken for SNDRV_PCM_IOCTL_STATUS, SNDRV_RAWMIDI_IOCTL_STATUS and SNDRV_PCM_IOCTL_SYNC_PTR because of i386 alignment. This is also addressed by the updated uapi header. - PCM mmap is currently supported on native x86 kernels (both 32-bit and 64-bit) but not for compat mode. This series breaks the 32-bit native mmap support for 32-bit time_t, but instead allows it for 64-bit time_t on both native and compat kernels. This seems to be the best trade-off, as mmap support is optional already, and most 32-bit code runs in compat mode anyway. - I've tried to avoid breaking compilation of 32-bit code as much as possible. Anything that does break however is likely code that is already broken on 64-bit time_t and needs source changes to fix them. I hope I addressed all review comments by now, so please pull this for linux-5.6. A git branch with the same contents is available for testing at [1]. [PATCH v2] sound/usb : Fix mic sound on Jieli webcam

Hi, this is my second attempt (https://mailman.alsa-project.org/pipermail/alsa-devel/2020-December/178361.…) to fix mic sound on a Jieli webcam. I found that the mic works only when ep packet size is set to wMaxPacketSize, so I've removed the datainterval hack. I also fixed the problem with the volume control (mixer). Now the mic sound works (no more Minion voice) and there are no more errors in syslog about volume range. I arbitrarily choose a resolution value (16): I read in a comment that there should be no more than 255 levels, so 4096 (max volume) / 16 = 0-255 ;-) Could you review this patch? snd_dma_buffer_sync() is declared twice, and the one outside the ifdef CONFIG_HAS_DMA could lead to a build error when CONFIG_HAS_DMA=n. As it's an overlooked leftover after rebase, drop this line. [PATCH v3 0/4] ASoC: SOF: Intel: power optimizations with HDaudio SPIB register

This patchset was initially provided in a larger series that was split in two [1]. This part only provides support for the SPIB register support, added on Intel platforms since Skylake (2015). The use of the SPIB register helps reduce power consumption - though to a smaller degree than DMI_L1. This hardware capability is however incompatible with userspace-initiated rewinds typically used by PulseAudio. In the past (2015..2017) Intel suggested an API extension to let applications disable rewinds. At the time the feedback was that such a capability was too Intel-specific and SPIB remained unused except for loading DSP code. We now see devices with smaller batteries being released, and it's time to revisit Linux support for SPIB to extend battery life. In this update the rewinds are disabled via an opt-in kernel parameter. In the previous reviews, there was consensus that a Kconfig option was too complicated for distributions to set, and we are missing a TBD API to expose such capabilities to user-space. The debate on whether or not to use rewinds, and the impact of disabling rewinds, will likely be closed when Intel releases the 'deep-buffer' support, currently under development [2][3]. With this solution, rewinds will not be needed, ever. When an application deals with content that is not latency-sensitive (e.g. music playback), it will be able to reduce power consumption by selecting a different PCM device with increased buffering capabilities. Low-latency streams will be handled by the 'regular' path. In other words, the impossible compromise between power and latency will be handled with different PCM devices/profiles for the same endpoint, and we can push the design of capability negotiation to a later time when all the building blocks (firmware topology, kernel, userspace) are ready - we still have firmware xruns, DPCM race conditions to solve, and a need to describe these alternate PCM devices with UCM using 'modifiers'. [PATCH] ASoC: Intel: sof_sdw: Initialize the sof_sdw_quirk with RT711_JD_NULL

The jd_src of RT711 which is initialized in rt711/rt711_sdca_init will be overridden by rt711/rt711_sdca_add_codec_device_props when the sof_sdw_quirk is not RT711_JD_NULL. It will force the JD mode to RT711_JD1 and cause confusion while debugging the JD mode of the boards without quirk. Initialize sof_sdw_quirk with RT711_JD_NULL to honor the jd_src value in rt711/rt711_sdca init.
