Ladies and gentlemen,
I tested alsa on Kernel 5.2.2 on an MacBook Air 3,2 with alsa-lib
1.1.9, fftw 3.3.8, ncurses 6.1. Somehow I was not able to get the right
speaker to work. On Kernel 4.19.60 everything works. Same setup
different results. Distribution: Arch Linux

[alsa-devel] [PATCH 00/22] ReST conversion of text files without .txt extension

This series converts the text files under Documentation with doesn't end
neither .txt or .rst and are not part of ABI or features[1].
This series is at:

[1] I submitted already a series to handle ABI and features.
There are some files besides the ones there with, IMHO, it
doesn't make sense to convert.
So, I wrote a small ugly script to track the files waiting to be
converted:

After this patch series, the script reports 358 files missing conversion, all ending with .txt.
>From those, ~40 files are already at ReST format - the ones at Documentation/*.txt - except
for a couple of files there.
So, there's around 320 files left to be converted after this series,
with gives me hope that we may finally finish the conversion this
year. Let's see.

As explained in this previous series [0], on Amlogic, we are using codec to
codec links to deal with the glue which is between the i2s backends and the
synopsys hdmi controller.
This worked well until I tried to .get_eld() support in the dw-hdmi-i2s
driver. Doing so adds channel mapping controls to the codec. This shown
several problem
1) .pcm_new() is not called on codec to codec links.
struct snd_soc_pcm_runtime do not even have a valid .pcm
2) struct snd_pcm_substream and struct snd_pcm_runtime are ephemeral
This is a problem if a control needs to access them
The goal of this patchset is to resolve the above issues and improve the
codec to codec link support enough to correctly handle the hdmi-codec
The support of these codec to codec links could probably be improved in the
future to behave like any other link and use soc_pcm_open(),
soc_pcm_hw_params(), etc...
The challenge lies in the dapm mutex. The soc_pcm call dapm function locking
this mutex but the dapm mutex is already held in snd_soc_dai_link_event()

When multiple serializers are used we need to track the number of
serializers used by the other stream direction to avoid killing data lines
when the first stream used more serializers than the second would need.
We are still protected against the case when the second stream uses more
serializers which had affected the running stream as well.
To take advantage of the improved serializer logic we need to modify the
channel constraints rule as well to allow the use of multiple serializers
for the second stream as additional ones will not affect the FS/BCLK on
the bus.

When running McASP as master capture alone will not record any audio unless
a parallel playback stream is running. As soon as the playback stops the
captured data is going to be silent again.
In McASP master mode we need to set the PDIR for the clock pins and fix
the mcasp_set_axr_pdir() to skip the bits in the PDIR registers above
AMUTE.
This went unnoticed as most of the boards uses McASP as slave and neither
of these issues are visible (audible) in those setups.
