Hi, when I connect the bluetooth BT300 of my Plantronics Headset I can see the following warning: [172855.985539] usb 2-1.3: Warning! Unlikely big volume range (=720), cval->res is probably wrong. [172855.985544] usb 2-1.3: [5] FU [PCM Playback Volume] ch = 1, val = -10240/1280/16 As far as I understand it, the problem may be solved by applying a quirk which is already applied for Logitech webcams. Can somebody help me in finding out the correct value for cval->res. I have no clue which calculations are necessary for that. Thanks in advance. Dennis Kadioglu

I am fairly convinced the mentions of 'BYT_COMMS_BT' or 'modem mixing' are no longer supported with the DPCM platform driver/firmware you used. To enable this codec it would be simpler to start with a newer machine driver derived from the bytcr_rt5640 one, with just a basic SSP0-aif1 link for starters (+ MCLK). Better yet, do this work with a MinnowBoard and an WM5102 eval board and test all this with more control on how the hardware is setup. [alsa-devel] Errors iterating over PCM stream hints and opening based on NAME/IOID

Hey All, I'm trying to understand ALSA, having a little trouble with some errors that I can't ration over. Gist Repro: https://gist.github.com/TReed0803/353ce27d37bc1ebe965854ea88c8b97b Whenever I run the above simple code (iterate over PCM stream hints, open for Playback/Capture depending on IOID; output also provided at link above) I notice that I sometimes hit errors. I'm having trouble understanding these errors, because as I understand I'm using the ALSA library correctly. For example, dmix is telling me that it "Only supports playback streams", well then, why does the hint IOID return that it supports capture as well? (same for dsnoop). More confusing are the "ALSA lib pcm_route.c:867:(find_matching_chmap) Found no matching channel map" errors. Can someone help me understand these issues, and perhaps what I'm doing wrong here? Would this point to something wrong with an installed package which perhaps configures these hints incorrectly? (Assuming that is probably the case, but I'd like to know for sure). I'm on a fairly new install of Ubuntu 16.04 LTS. Thanks, - Trent Reed

Hi all, In this developing cycle for Linux 4.7, I concentrate on working to check packet sequence of ALSA firewire stack, because I ensure that the stack causes Dice-based models to generate sound including periodical noise or to generate no sound in the worst case. As of the end of developing cycle for Linux 4.6, I assumed that this is a bug of ALSA firewire stack[1]. However, the assumption is denied by my analysis with added tracepoints of Linux tracing framework[2]. Then, I concluded that the issue comes from quirks of Dice in an aspect of processing presentation timestamp. I'm under further investigation and have seen some of the quirks. In this message, I describe the summary of superficial issues from the quirks, the status of ALSA firewire stack in Linux 4.6 for Dice-based models and direction of my work for ALSA firewire stack in this developing cycle. Besides, resources and my memo for this work is available in this URL. Summary - Dice ASICs/firmwares/drivers communicate with packet sequences which is partly not compliant to IEC 61883-6. - Dice ASICs/firmwares/drivers doesn't sometimes transfer data blocks as the same as sampling transfer frequency. - Calculation of presentation timestamp is not based on duration of data blocks in a packet. This way is different from implementation of ALSA firewire stack. - The value of estimated 'transfer delay' is against IEEE 1394 spec. As a result: - ALSA dice driver causes these issues. ALSA dice driver in Linux kernels since 3.13 have included this issue. - To fix this issue, ALSA firewire stack require timestamp generator and data block calculator specific for Dice-based models. At least, three functions should be changed; amdtp_stream_start(), calculate_data_blocks(), calculate_syt() in 'sound/firewire/amdtp-stream.c'. - The work requires much changes, thus it's impossible for Linux 4.6. ALSA firewire stack in Linux 4.6 will be shipped with these issues. - We have a short time till merge window of Linux 4.7 (Just one week). I'll work for merging my proposed patchset[2][3][4], without fixing the issues. Hello to All I have an IMX6 board and I need a simple way to capture/put an I2s master signal I'm working with yocto and kernel version 3.14.28-1.0.0 I have on my development board an sgtl5000 codec but it work only with I2S slave mode I've found the driver fsl-asoc-card.c from more recent kernel and I've modified it But no matter what I do i cannot set I2S to master mode Please Help -- P.S. If the DSP suffers an unrecoverable error, the driver likely knows about this, however the framework may not get informed because errors returned from pointer requests are ignored within the framework. Things work out fine if user-space is doing a read as reads return error status back to user-space so the user can find out that things have gone bad. However, if user-space is doing an avail request there is no path for the error to come back up to user-space. The pointer request returns zero available data, so a read never happens and we basically just end up sitting waiting for data on a stream that we know full well has died. This patch set attempts to address this and ensure that errors are fully propagated to user-space and we don't ever end up wait for data that will never come. Changes since v5: - Add a debug print to note which state we transition to in snd_compr_stop_error It might be easiest to put the ASoC changes through Mark's tree as there are some merge conflicts otherwise, as such I have based this series on Mark's tree. Certain situations may warrant examining DAPM paths only to a certain arbitrary point, as opposed to always following them to the end. For instance, when establishing a connection between a front-end DAI link and a back-end DAI link in a DPCM path, it does not make sense to walk the DAPM graph beyond the first widget associated with a back-end link. This patch introduces a mechanism which lets a user of dai_get_connected_widgets supply a function which will be called for every node during the graph walk. When invoked, this function can execute arbitrary logic to decide whether the walk, given a DAPM widget and walk direction, should be terminated at that point or continued as normal. Hi, I configured my softvol plugin with a min_dB value of -6.0. However, if I store the state with alsactl store, the comment section shows a dbmin value of 0. I figured out that the softvol plugin adds the tlv info when it adds the user ctl and stores the db values in snd_pcm_softvol_t. Why differ the values of the tlv and the values of snd_pcm_softvol_t? My goal is to get information of the current dB value used by the softvol plugin, e.g. -6.0dB for a raw volume value of 255 and -51.0dB for 0. However, I only get values from +0 to +51dB using snd_ctl_convert_to_dB(). Do I miss something? Patch 5: This is the Caleb Crome's case [2], where the SSI starts to generate samples while the TX FIFO is not filled by the DMA yet. Void samples can be inserted before DMA streaming. The first is fine, the second fails.
