256FS sysclk gives the best audio quality per nau8825 datasheet. Loud headphone pop happens if there is no sysclk during nau8825 playback power up sequence. Currently Skylake does not output MCLK/FS when the back-end DAI op hw_param is called, so we cannot switch to MCLK/FS in hw_param. This patch reduces pop by leting nau8825 keep using its internal VCO clock during widget power up sequence, until SNDRV_PCM_TRIGGER_START when MCLK/FS is available. This is a temporary fix before Intel ADSP can output MCLK/FS early. BUG=chrome-os-partner:50471 TEST=`emerge-sentry sys-kernel/chromeos-kernel-3_18`. Verified a local build that could reduce the pop sound. Hi, When the kernel reports current (playback) delay via a call to snd_pcm_status() or snd_pcm_delay() for a normal hardware PCM, then the delay value reported is the sum of space used in the ring buffer plus any delay reported from the underlying runtime driver. snd_pcm_dshare_status() and snd_pcm_dshare_delay() discard this refinement and simply report the use of some ring buffer. Why does it do this and how could the reporting be improved? In particular I am struggling to understand the relationship between a dshare instance's (view of a) ring buffer and the slave (hw) PCM's ring buffer. I understand that the *slowptr* configuration item can be set to get more accurate position updates as part of this reporting but I get the feeling that this will not on its own solve the problem. If it did then one could simply use the delay value reported by the slave PCM. The context of these questions is using dshare to expose 4 logical stereo devices on a platform using an ARM-based SoC with a single 8-channel hardware driver. I need to get the same level of delay report accuracy as I would do without using dshare. Alan.

Hi, After reporting the issue on bugzilla (https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=155601) I felt I could do more in order to try to get a patch to fix the issue. Basically when I plug an headset(mic+headphone), it only detects the headphone not the mic. Since I assumed the "memory address" of the 0x18 pin is wrong, I've tried to change some values in order to get it working. I have tries both ways: 1. By changing the kernel souce(sound/pci/hda/patch_cirrus): in the function static void cs4208_fixup_mac(struct hda_codec *codec, const struct hda_fixup *fix, int action) I've added an configuration to set the address of the 0x18. Dear mailing list individuals, I currently own a Sound Blaster Z from Creative. Testing on Linux Mint 18 64-bit with the stock Linux 4.4 kernel, ALSA 1.0.25+dfsg-0ubuntu5 and ALSA utilities 1.1.0-0ubuntu5. Output only works from the front panel headphone port when HP/Speaker is enabled. All audio enhancements available work as well. Input only works via the microphone port on the card itself, and all audio enhancements like voice clarity and voice transformation work as well. It seems only the ports are a mess. I do not know how to do any audio driver development so I not sure if it would require a lot of work to fix. Does the team have any of these cards? They come in Z, Zx and ZxR editions, with the last card being significantly different port-wise. Would it help if this hardware would be donated possibly by Creative themselves? Following RFC series adds SoundWire bus driver interface based on the MIPI SoundWire specification 1.1 The SoundWire protocol is a robust, scalable, low complexity, low power, low latency, two-pin (clock and data) multi-drop bus that allows for the transfer of multiple audio streams and embedded control/commands. SoundWire provides synchronization capabilities and supports both PCM and PDM, multichannel data, isochronous and asynchronous modes. SoundWire does borrow a number of concepts from existing interfaces such as HDAudio, AC97, SLIMbus, which already provide control/audio on the same wires, or legacy interfaces such as I2C/I2S, TDM, PDM. The capabilities of SoundWire make it unique however in that it can be implemented in peripherals such as microphones or amplifiers, mix PCM and PDM formats and enable clock scaling to reduce power consumption. [alsa-devel] Lenovo Dock + Thinkpad X260 -> no HDMI audio output

Dear all, (please cc) I am trying to get HDMI audio output via a Lenovo Dock Ultra in combination with a Lenovo Thinkpad X260. When plugging the HDMI device (screen) directly into the laptop, audio output can be selected in pavucontrol / Configuration, but when the laptop is connected via the dock all the HDMI devices appear as unplugged. I have googled a bit and found a similar case for T430: http://permalink.gmane.org/gmane.linux.alsa.user/36896 and checking the source code of snd_hda_intel it seems that options snd-hda-intel model=lenovo-dock should help, but indeed it didn't. I am running Debian/sid, on today's git kernel (4.9.0-rc5+). I attach the output of alsa-info. Please let me know whether I can try some more tweaks.
