Hi, I've an baytrail / Z3735F based HDMI Stick "Orbsmart AW-01", but sound does not work. I'm a little lost finding out what is missing / required to make it work. I compiled an 4.3-rc2 vanilla kernel with hopefully each and everything turned on relating soc/sound. Hi Lars, commit b4508d0f95fa4aaed889549e31391641d675d4bb ("ASoC: db1200: Use static DAI format setup") breaks I2S in that the set_dai_fmt() callbacks of neither the codec (wm8731) nor the I2S block (psc-i2s) are called. Please revert this change or fix it up so that the set_dai_fmt() callbacks are at least called once. (This was broken since 4.0, but I just now got around to test linux on the hardware again). [alsa-devel] [PATCH v2] sound: oss: ad1848: Fix returned errno code in ad1848_init()

The driver is using -1 instead of the -ENOMEM defined macro to specify that a buffer allocation failed. Since the error number is propagated, the caller will get a -EPERM which is the wrong error condition. Changed the checks of the return of ad1848_init() to be for >= 0, instead of != -1. Commit b4508d0f95fa ("ASoC: db1200: Use static DAI format setup") switched the db1200 driver over to using static DAI format setup instead of a callback function. But the commit only added the dai_fmt field to one of the three DAI links in the driver. This breaks audio on db1300 and db1550. Add the two missing dai_fmt settings to fix the issue. [alsa-devel] Missing snd_pcm_link() for the rate plugin

Dear ALSA community, does anybody know, why the rate plugin does not support the snd_pcm_link() function? As I can see from the ALSA-Lib source code, snd_pcm_link() calls the fast_op "link", which is a function pointer, whose destination depends on the type of pcm device/plugin to be linked. If the device is a HW-device for instance, the function snd_pcm_hw_link() is called. Several other plugins (e.g. mmap_emul, linear, lfloat, mulaw, alaw, route) use the generic function snd_pcm_generic_link(), which forwards the function call to their slave devices/plugins. The rate plugin instead does not support snd_pcm_link(), since the function pointer "link" is not assigned in the definition of snd_pcm_rate_fast_ops. Is their any reason to not use the generic function snd_pcm_generic_link() within the rate plugin? Thanks in advance for answering this question, Christian

Hi, I'm working with the ALC5640-VB audio codec based on the Realtek RT5640. On my setup the codec is only used for audio output through an headphone jack, otherwise the audio should be routed via HDMI. The problem is that the jack sensing only works when the codec is actively playing something, that is when the bias set for the codec is not SND_SOC_BIAS_OFF. When the codec is suspended and it is powered off I'm not able to detect anymore the presence of the jack. Because of this issue actively switching the audio from HDMI to HP when the jack is inserted is not working. The driver I'm using for the RT5640 in the .set_bias_level hook function among other things is gating the I2S input clock and this seems to prevent the generation of the IRQ signal I'm using to detect the presence/absence of the jack (the culprit here is MX-FA[0] bit for those interested). I can easily modify the codec driver to avoid gating the I2S clock when the bias is off but this seems in contrast with the whole DAPM principle. This patch set implements support for i2s audio and new AMD GPUs. The i2s codec is fed by a DMA engine on the GPU. To handle this we create mfd cells which we hang the i2s codec and DMA engine on. Because of this, this patch set covers two subsystems: drm and alsa. The drm patches add support for the ACP hw block which provides the DMA engine for the i2s codec. The alsa patches add the ASoC driver for the i2s codec. Since the alsa changes depend on the drm changes in this patch set as well as some other drm changes queued for 4.3, I'd like to take the alsa patches in via the drm tree. V2 changes: - Use the MFD subsystem rather than adding our own bus - Squash all sub-feature patches together - fix comments mentioned in previous review V3 changes: - Update the designware driver to handle slave mode, amd specific features - Use the designware driver directly for i2s - Move the DMA handling from the GPU driver into the AMD ASoC driver - Change the license on the ASoC driver to GPL Patch 4 adds the register headers for the ACP block which is a pretty big patch so I've excluded it from email.
