Changes since v1: * Rename the xmax parameter for the SOC_ENUM_SINGLE_VIRT() macro to xitems. Original cover letter below. We currently have 5 nearly identical implementations of enum controls. Two for normal controls and three for DAPM controls. The only difference between them is how and if the selected enum item is mapped to a register value. For normal enums there is a direct mapping of the selected item to the register value, for value enums there is an additional look-up table that maps the selected item to a register value. DAPM also as a virtual enum which is not backed by any hardware register and the enum is solely used to influence DAPM routing decisions. The different implementations can easily be consolidating by making a few small changes. The series first introduces two helper functions to translate between the selected item and the register value. These functions will do the right thing depending on whether the enum has a direct mapping or is a value enum. These functions will be used to consolidate enums and value enums as well as MUXs and value MUXs. The next step is consolidate MUXs and virtual MUXs. This requires enums that are only used as virtual enums to be marked as such. This is done the same way as for virtual mixer controls by setting reg to SND_SOC_NOPM. All users of virtual MUXs are updated accordingly and then virtual MUXs and MUXs are updated to share the same implementation. The last patch in the series does cleanup of dapm_set_path_status() on top of all this. Once this has been merged I'll send a second patch-set replacing and removing the now deprecated ENUM and MUX macros. [alsa-devel] Audio passthrough on Pandaboard using ALSA API

Hello I created simple application that makes audio pass-through (from analog input to analog output), After 2-10 seconds get error like: AlsaPassthrough: pcm.c:693: snd_pcm_close: Assertion `pcm' failed. or write to audio interface failed (Broken pipe) Seems I have problem with buffer size/time or somethink like that. [alsa-devel] hda: Bug - (timing?) problem causes DP monitor to not get activated

Hi, I'm having a bug here, where the loaded hda module causes some (timing?) problem resulting in a monitor connected to the DP not to get active. I can reproduce this on a Lenovo X201 and T410 (Ironlake) sitting on a docking station, which has a monitor (Dell U2410) connected to a DP. Steps to reproduce: 1. boot with the laptop at the docking station and the monitor plugged in 2. start the X-Server ... output on LVDS and DP is okay 3. disable the DP: xrandr --output LVDS1 --preferred --output DP1 --off ... output on LVDS - okay 4. switch to DP: xrandr --output LVDS1 --off --output DP1 --preferred ... DP _usually_ doesn't gets active, it turn off into suspend state Why I think that it is related to the hda module? If I boot a kernel without the hda module step 4 always works. When having the hda module loaded I need some luck and some iterations of step 3 and 4 to activate the monitor at the DP. I verified that the problem exists in kernel v3.13.1 and v3.14-rc4. The logs I have attached have been created on the T410 with kernel v3.14-rc4. The first alsa-info....txt has been created right after booting, the second one after step 4 failed. The kernel has been build with all alsa debug options I could find, the config is attached as well, and the kernel has been booted with drm.debug=0xe - this might be to much, but it shows pretty clear when the outputs have been switched. I hope that anyone can read something usefull - something that went wrong - out of the log files. My unexercised eye can't spot anything obvious. If more logs are necessary, I'll send them. The beep input device is registered via input_register_device(), but this is called in snd_hda_attach_beep_device() where the sound devices aren't registered yet. This leads to the binding to non-existing object, thus results in failure. And, even if the binding worked (against the PCI object), it's still racy; the input device appears before the sound objects. For fixing this, register the input device properly at dev_register ops of the codec object it's bound with. Also, call snd_hda_detach_beep_device() at dev_disconnection so that it's detached at the right timing. As a bonus, since it's called in the codec's ops, we can get rid of the further call from the other codec drivers. Do you know the reason? Are there any model quirks? I don't have any of the AV/C audio specifications; these rules were determined experimentally. In other words, when the sample rate is set to 48 or 96 kHz, sending a stream with two PCM channels appears to work. If you wanted to support these undocumented formats in your driver, you would have to add some kind of quirk. Regards, Clemens

This series rearranges some code in the HDA driver to break dependencies on PCI and allow for most of the HDA code to be reused for non-PCI based HDA controllers. I tried to break it up to make it less scary and to keep changes away from copies of code. It is mostly copies with a few modifications to make more of the code usable by both HDA drivers. The main changes were to avoid using pci to get a device pointer, and to make the bus reads/writes into callbacks so that the Tegra driver could ensure 32-bit access to the HDA registers. The final patch is a work in progress included here to provide context for the preceding patches. The Tegra HDA driver still needs some cleaning up, but nothing that will affect the other changes. The last infrastructure issue is that the Tegra driver uses DT, causing it to be probed before the codec patches. I haven't determined how to fix that yet. I didn't include the patch to move the hda directory from under pci because of its size and how easy it will be to regenerate later. Thanks for looking.
