[alsa-devel] [PATCH v4] MIDI driver for Behringer BCD2000 USB device

This patch adds initial support for the Behringer BCD2000 USB DJ controller. At the moment, only the MIDI part of the device is working, i.e. knobs, buttons and LEDs. I also plan to add support for the audio part, but I assume that this will require more effort than the rather simple MIDI interface. Progress can be tracked at https://github.com/anyc/snd-usb-bcd2000. Its combination of channels are not designed for surround sound like 5.1ch. Just judging from its name, 'SNDRV_PCM_CLASS_MULTI', I should use this. But there are no drivers which use this macro in current tree, against my expectation that some drivers (ICE1712-pro, RME9652, 6fire usb and so on) should use this macro. Are there any reasons? We originally thought to request SST audio DSP firmware during the SST platform driver initialization. However plain request_firmware doesn't work in driver probe paths if userspace is not ready to handle it. For instance when drivers are built-in. Implementing asynchronous firmware request in SST platform driver initialization complicates code needlessly since it anyway will fail if firmware is missing. This is more simple to handle by requesting firmware asynchronously in sst_acpi_probe() and register SST platform only after firmware is loaded.
