Starting audio or seeking in various music players causes setup_dig_out_stream() to be called, which resets the SPDIF stream, which caused one DAC (but not another) to make a clicking noise every time. This patch turns off codec->spdif_status_reset after one reset which stops further clicks. One reset is still necessary to initialise the codec properly. Developers! SPDIF INPUT, (High Definition Audio Specification: 5.4.3 Source Synchronous Input) Writing application. hardware: ALC886 codec and AMD FUSION in my special device. How can I detect spdif stream source sample ratio? I tried not to set the ratio at init – this gives 44.1 If I set 48k it seams to work. if I set different, alsa+codec is somehow following my request and rectangular-“resampling” input to given setting. That is I am getting 2x the same value when I set 96000Hz I am afraid of repeatedly loosing samples or getting it twice (e.g. in case of jitter or the stream from alsa is not really the source synchronous ). How can I got real 1:1 sample ratio? if no solution: can I use much higher sample ratio and use software PLL based on equal consequent samples? is that behavior of repeating samples consistent? – i.e. is that planed or bug? RAW data (e.g. AC3): SND_PCM_FORMAT_IEC958_SUBFRAME_LE is not available but 32 bit format brings all 32 bits set to some non constant value. Is this maybe the raw format? Regards, Rafal

Hello, first of all, i want to thank you for the attention. It's necessary good support recording with Ubuntu, and you do so well. So, i have the M-Audio Fast Track C400 and i have installed on my computer Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (Precise Pangolin). My system recognized the soundcard, run JACK with it, but i can't record or hear any sound from there. Which procedure i have to do? Thank you again. Best regards. [alsa-devel] UCM/DAPM - saving power when idle?

I don't deal much with ASoC, so sorry if I'm missing something obvious here... When a certain use case is activated, that would then activate some DAPM widgets, causing the codec to consume more power. So, we should essentially avoid this unless we're actually playing back/recording. But, why isn't there a "disable all use cases" command, or possibly an "idle" command? (That, essentially, e g pulseaudio should set whenever playback/recording stops) Or; the option would be that the codec is actually powered down, but only activates itself when there is a stream; but this looks like it could cause problem with loopback paths (e g listening to FM radio, where there are no streams passing through CPU/main memory). -- David Henningsson, Canonical Ltd. https://launchpad.net/~diwic

[alsa-devel] Issue when upgrading from 1.0.22 to 1.0.25

I initially tried to send this yesterday from my work e-mail, but I think they may be blocking the list for some reason. Apologies if this question shows up twice. I am attempting to upgrade from Ubuntu version 10.04 to version 12.04. Version 10.04 has ALSA version 1.0.22 and version 12.04 has ALSA 1.0.25. I have a simple test application that captures microphone input and then plays the audio through the speaker. When run with ALSA 1.0.22 the program works as expected. When I run the program with ALSA 1.0.25, I get a bad pipe error indicating buffer underrun when calling writes. Both systems have the same hardware (Dell Latitude E6400 laptop). I tried looking through the change logs to determine if there were any obvious changes that stood out to me, but couldn't find anything. I have attached my code. Any suggestions? Program is compiled using "g++ audio_test.cpp -o audio_test -lasound" Audio sample rate: 8000 Buffer size: 1800 Format: Signed 16bit LE, interleaved
