If more than one mic is present with different locations,
e g "Front Mic" and "Rear Mic", they can use the same index (0),
since their names are different.
Previous behavior was to have "Front Mic" as index 1, causing it
to be ignored by e g PulseAudio.

[alsa-devel] [PATCH v3 0/3] input: Add support for ECI (multimedia) accessories
by tapio.vihuri@nokia.com 05 Jan '11
by tapio.vihuri@nokia.com 05 Jan '11
05 Jan '11
From: Tapio Vihuri <tapio.vihuri(a)nokia.com>
Thank you for comments.
ECI input driver changes:
- Makefile and Kconfig sorted alphabetically
- using sparse keymap library, much cleaner solution
- correct string aligment with 80 column
- debugfs initialization fix
- sysfs cable entry using just 0/1
- using cheaper __set_bit
- insane comments fixed
- remove unneeded misc device
Created against linux-2.6.37-rc8 at:
989d873 Merge master.kernel.org:/home/rmk/linux-2.6-arm
--- v2 message ---
Thank you for comments.
In series two there Kconfig dependency problem fixed, preventing compilation
if X86_MRST (Intel Moorestown) or INPUT_MISC is not selected.
Also created against linux-2.6.37-rc8
--- v1 message ---
Hi all
This patch set introduce Multimedia Headset Accessory support for
Nokia phones. Technically those are known as ECI (Enhancement Control Interface)
If headset has many buttons, like play, vol+, vol- etc. then it is propably ECI
accessory.
Among several buttons ECI accessories contains memory for storing several
parameters.
This ECI input driver provides the following features:
- reading ECI configuration memory
- ECI buttons as input events
Drive is constructed as follows:
- ECI accessory input driver deals with headset accessory
- ECI bus control driver deals the HW transfering data to/from headset
- platform data match used HW
In the future accessory detection logic will be added using ALSA jack reporting.
Created against linux-2.6.37-rc6
Please review.

Hi,
the state of VIA VT1708 in the current kernel is far from optimal. It
would be good to improve the situation, at least for 2.6.38. On the
machine here, I experience at least these bugs:
1) "Jack detect" switch has no function:
* When turning "Jack detect" off, quitting alsamixer, then restarting
it, "Jack detect" is still on.
* When turning "Jack detect" off, then turning it on again, alsamixer
crashes with the message "alsamixer: hcontrol.c:764:
snd_hctl_handle_event: Assertion `elem' failed."
2) Plugging headphones in toggles "Front" switch control
* This should probably just be removed, especially with the latest
opinion from Takashi of what "Front" really means. The problem is
worsened by that PulseAudio seems to pick it up in some circumstances
and thinks that it should mute everything.
3) Several users report headphones output being broken
* Symptoms vary a little and some might be due to bug 2), but some
however report the headphones volume being "grayed out" in alsamixer. I
haven't seen that in particular on the hardware here.
4) All these extra controls - "Independent HP", "Jack Detect", "Smart 5.1"
I assume they are meant to add extra functionality, and of course I
don't mind that, but the problem is that since these are not very well
described (or am I missing documentation somewhere?) it's difficult to
know the exact intended functionality of these, and without knowing
that, it's even more difficult to fix it when it's broken (or even
knowing if it is broken or not!).
Any ideas and/or opinions? Should we talk to VIA about it, after all
they seem to have written a lot of the code here? Or can someone here
cast some light on these issues?

The rest of ASoC is using SND_SOC_ as the prefix for all the Kconfig
symbols so do so for the new Samsung drivers too, rather than using
ASOC_ as they currently are.

Mark,
Unfortunately, this doesn't seem to work for me.
I briefly investigated, and think the following code is required near the
end of wm8903_hw_params() right before all the register write calls:
if (wm8903->sysclk_src == WM8903_SYSCLK_FLL)
clock1 |= WM8903_CLK_SRC_SEL_MASK;
else
clock1 &= ~WM8903_CLK_SRC_SEL_MASK;
(plus some extra defines in the header for that field)
However, with that, all I hear is silence. That's the same thing as
happens when MCLK isn't provided at all, so I suppose there's something
else missing in the FLL programming too.
As an aside, I was looking through the Tegra documentation, and in fact
the cdev1 pin (which feeds the codec MCLK) can be sourced from pll_a,
i.e. the same clock domain as the I2S bit clock. The existing kernel
clock driver is simply missing the code to set this up.
Again unfortunately, implementing and doing that doesn't solve the noise
issue. I suppose I need to start probing the pins with a 'scope/analyzer
to make sure of what's really coming out of Tegra. Pity they're so small
and have no test points:-(
P.S. In theory I'm on holiday/vacation until the 2nd. Perhaps I'll get
bored and keep toying with this though...

BugLink: http://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/697240
If the "Volume" suffix is not given, alsa-lib gets confused and
loses the dB information at the simple element level.
Boosts generally affects both playback and capture, as they are
applied early in the chain. Hence no "Playback" or "Capture" in
the suffix.

[alsa-devel] [PATCH v2 0/3] input: Add support for ECI (multimedia) accessories
by tapio.vihuri@nokia.com 04 Jan '11
by tapio.vihuri@nokia.com 04 Jan '11
04 Jan '11
From: Tapio Vihuri <tapio.vihuri(a)nokia.com>
Thank you for comments.
