[alsa-devel] refreshing the reg cache in asoc driver

Hi, I'm writing the driver for wm8804 s/pdif transceiver. However, my problem is that I would like to refresh my register cache inside the driver by periodically reading the values stored in device's registers. There is an interrupt handler fsi_interrupt() (in fsi.c) called when codec receives some data, but I suppose I need to find something closer to the 'codec layer'. Or maybe I'm just thinking wrongly and there is much simpler way of doing this. Appreciate any advice. Thank you very much, best regards, Greg

Hi Daniel et al, I have successfully interfaced the sdr-widget with Linux alsa-driver for ASYNC OUT with rate feedback. Found out after much trial and error and reading of the usbaudio alsa-driver source code that you are using 12.13 as the format for the feedback rate !!! I was trying with 10.14 (UAC1 v1.2 specs , I think) in 3 bytes, and 16.16 (USB 2.0) in 4 bytes for quite a number of days with no success !!! However, 12.13 in 4 bytes, whilst working like a charm with Linux, does NOT work with OSX. Would you know the format used by OSX? Thanks. Alex

Hello all, I'm rather new to ALSA development. I would like to build a little loop-player driven by a beat counter and a good mail exchange from linuxaudio.org gave me a smart solution: to count the beat bars into the audio thread. Knowing the sample rate and the processed samples, I'm able to calculate the clock (what do you think about this approach?). And now my question: is there a good function into alsa API which returns the number of processed frames? Or even better, is it possibile to fire a callback after N frames? While it is a generic serial port in practice the i.MX SSI is only supported in Linux as an audio port (the i.MX has dedicated SPI controllers and so on). This means we don't need to disambiguate against other uses of the hardware and so can drop the -dai suffix from the driver name which fixes merge issues with the i.MX tree in -next. [alsa-devel] ALC662 NID 0x09 is not unmuted anymore - intentional?

Hello, I happened to spend last couple of evenings figuring out what's wrong with microphone on my laptop (Lenovo Y550P, in case you are interested in). It has Intel HDA soundcard with Realtek 272 codec. No, I'm not going to ask for a help on devel mailing list, at the very least because I know what's wrong myself. But this knowledge poses some questions regarding snd-hda-intel kenel driver (more precisely, patch_realtek.c, which is part of it) I want to clarify. Anyway, sorry for the long intro :) It quickly appeared that AUD_IN widget of the codec (NID 0x09) has no way to be unmuted - its input amplifier is muted at the very beginning of alc662_init_verbs and is not connected to any ALSA control (maybe it should). I remembered the mic was working some time ago, so I've skimmed through kernel versions and found the offending commit: http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux-2.6.git;a=commitdi… One can clearly see from it that before it was applied (i.e. Linux 2.6.34), this widget was unmuted in alc662_auto_init_verbs (thus it happened to every auto-configured card, including mine), but it is not unmuted anymore (as far as I can see, for any model except maybe ecs - I haven't dug into this too much). The question is if it is intentional (i.e. there should be some ALSA switch connected to 0x09 input amplifier) or is it a bug? Thanks for the explanations. -- Regards, Valentine Sinitsyn

I'm researching a few bugs where the user claims position_fix=1 helps the problem, but adding the quirk for that model surprisingly didn't. So looking at the code, I concluded that the difference was via_dmapos_patch, and that they all had via_dmapos_patch=1, and that via_dmapos_patch=0 helped them solve the problem. Three out of five (not all of them have reported back on via_dmapos_patch=0 yet) are VIA controllers rev 10. So we now have VIA controllers that need via_dmapos_patch=0. I can think of a few approaches here: 1) since position_fix=1 implicitly sets via_dmapos_patch to 0 (maybe unintentionally), we should add a position_fix=3 meaning lpib + via_dmapos_patch=1 2) figure if something has changed recently (as in "within the last year"...) that has made via_dmapos_patch=1 work worse than before 3) figure out if there are several ATI/VIA controllers that actually never wants the patch. What was previously known as via_dmapos_patch, and hard-coded to be used for VIA and ATI controllers, is now configurable through a module option. The background is that some VIA controllers seem to prefer via_dmapos_patch to be turned off. This patch the I2C board information for the WM8994 used in the Aquila as audio codec and adds the I2C/I2S platform drivers. Additionlly, to control power consumption have registerd the voltage consumer of WM8994 to the regulator framework. I initialize gpio settting relevant to operation of audio codec. I explain following comment concering gpio setting: - CODEC_XTAL_EN : This gpio enables that the main clock is provided to operate audio codec. - MICBIAS_EN : This gpio enable the microphone to input analog - ADC_EN : This gpio enable the ADC device which is used to detect the kind of jack. (SND_JACK_HEADPHONE/HEADSET/MECHANICAL/AVOUT) According to the kind of jack, an electric current is changed. Hi, I recently sent a message to this list. It was sent via gmane and I can see and read the contents fine via NNTP with gmane. The gmane archive is fine: http://permalink.gmane.org/gmane.linux.alsa.devel/77313 However the official Mailman archive cuts the message off: http://mailman.alsa-project.org/pipermail/alsa-devel/2010-September/032025.… Did people directly subscribed to the list get my mail OK or was it cut off there too? Here's the tool "one of the Mandriva guys" ;-) was talking about the other day. I should probably have announced it on both lists simultaneously. Anyway, over the previous weeks I've been working on a small script which tests whether the ALSA mixer lives up to PA's expectations. If you are familiar with dbmeasure or dbverify by Lennart Poettering, this application's purpose is very similar, but this one is hopefully easier to set up, more user friendly, and also tests that the names of the volume controls are correct. My hope is that this will aid as a debugging tool for all these "everything below 20% of my speaker is muted, and then 21% blows my speakers" bugs. To use the tool, you'll need some kind of loopback. You can e g use a loopback cable and connect that between line in and line out, or test your laptop's internal speakers with your laptop's internal mic (just stop humming when you do so :-) ). Just set up the recording levels appropriately. Common consensus in the forums seems to be that the mkII versions of the TASCAM 122 and 144 have different hard- and/or software than their respective predecessors, and won't work with the current ALSA drivers. At least the latter I can confirm for my US-144mkII. Lacking the resources to modify the existing driver to work with the above interface, let alone write a new one, I wanted to ask if anyone of the active ALSA developers would be willing to (or is even already in the process of) write or modify a driver for the new TASCAMs. I would be more than willing to contribute to a bounty, if such a thing is common or at least accepted in the ALSA community, and according to this post (http://article.gmane.org/gmane.linux.alsa.user/34586) TASCAM is ready to support such a project with demo units. I would also be willing to function as a tester, of course. Hi all, I'm sending out a patch that I didn't write (and thus most likely require David's Signed-Off), but which I think might be a good idea to at least have accessible to search. As David already pointed out to me, the proper fix for the issue is Takashi's commit 75e0eb24ee3ec3549c2e53707dcc87e5f7a2c791, but that hasn't made it into .36 RCs and thus seem unlikely to come to users anytime soon. David's patch is a "band aid" solution; it solves most of the problem by adding one more special case to the sigmatel patches; on the other hand it makes the internal microphone to work fine on my laptop, which is a good thing, right? Anyway, if this can be considered for .36 or for some stable branch (*looks toward Greg hoping for pity*), it would probably make me (and other owners of such laptops) probably very happy. Especially given that we have enough trouble with a non-working SDHCI and a not-yet-supported Alps touchpad/trackpoint combination. Thanks in advance, whatever the outcome, -- Diego Elio Pettenò
