[alsa-devel] [PATCH] ALSA: ASoC: fix NULL pointer dereference in soc_suspend()

In case the initalization of an soc_device failed, there is no codec associated with it. soc_suspend() will still dereference the pointer and cause an Ooops when entering the sleep mode. This happens on our board with a multi-target kernel image when booted on a machine without audio circuits. This patch makes the code bail out very early in this special case. [alsa-devel] Wonder if VT1708A has Mic Boost or not

Hi Folks! I have a mini-PC here which should record Voice over Microphone. The Level is not really loud enough and the alsa-driver-1.0.19 doesn't reveal a mic boost setting in its mixer. This of course may be of the driver not yet being adapted to the special motherboard AFAIK. What I wonder is, is the Mic Boost setting/function integrated in this chip itself or does hardware vendor need to implement external opamps for this? If it is integrated into the chip itself I could try to modifiy the code to make the setting public. Is there a source for a datasheet anywhere for the VT1708A? Adds driver support for the two instances of McASP on TI's DM646x. The multichannel audio serial port (McASP) functions as a general-purpose audio serial port optimized for the needs of multichannel audio application. (http://www.ti.com/litv/pdf/spruer1b). There are two instances of McASP on DM646x. The McASP0 module includes up to 4 serializers that can be individually enabled to either transmit or receive in different modes. The McASP1 module is limited with only 1 pinned-out serializer that can be enabled to only transmit in DIT mode (neither receiving in any mode nor transmitting in either Burst or TDM mode is supported). The codec on the DM646x EVM is AIC32 which is connected to Serializer0 and Serializer1 of McASP0. The McASP0 consists of transmit and receive sections that may operate synchronized, or completely independently with separate master clocks, bit clocks, and frame syncs, and using different transmit modes with different bit-stream formats. Hello. I tested the snd-ctxfi driver and found no problems (except no support for 5.1 and external console, but original ctxfi does not support them either). A minor problem: kernel oops reporter periodically pops up with message about using a timer in a wrong place. I'll post here this message when I get it next time.

I can't run several applications at the same time and recorded all the sounds. This is what I did : My default sound card is indexed at 0, so the snd-aloop will be at index 1. To test this, I first run an MP3 player. Then I run this in terminal: arecord -D hw:1,1 -f cd | aplay -D hw:0 -f cd The sound come out good. Then when I open a browser, go to youtube and play a song over there, the sound won't come out. I have to first close the browser and the currently playing MP3 player, then re-open a browser, go to youtube, and play a song, the sound will come out. So, my question is.. is there something missing in my .asoundrc file? can the snd-aloop support multiple playbacks and captures at the same time? is there a way for me to achieve this?

I am trying to gather opinions and experiences from the ALSA developer community to understand what they expect to happen when they plug in an analog microphone into their laptops (which already has a built in mic). I am looking for more of an official ALSA document which states how capture should change when an analogue microphone is plugged in; should it takeover from the internal microphone or not? Is there specification, standard, or "correct" behavior which is applied to this process? If I am not mistaking, the computer can detect a signal/message when the jack goes in, right? The expected behavior when plugging in headphones is that the headphones are detected, the speakers are muted and the audio is channeled to the headphones. Is this not applicable to external microphone and the internal microphone as well? -komputes
