[alsa-devel] Support for USB-Audio devices with Multiple configurations?

I'm writing some firmware for a USB microphone array with multiple configurations, and I'm wondering if it's possible to tell ALSA which configuration to use in a module option or something (device_setup, perhaps). I've been looking through usbaudio.c in the kernel source (2.6.28-11-generic from the ubuntu Jaunty package), and I can't find any generic device configuration like that. If this is not possible, does anyone have any recommendations on how to implement this? I can imagine doing it using quirks for this particular USB_ID, but this seems like a fairly generic type of capability, so I'd like to make it general if possible. If anyone is wondering *why* I want multiple configurations: it's for bandwidth management. I have 8 channels, but I want to be able to sample 1 channel as fast as possible without wasting bandwidth on the other 7. I couldn't figure out a way to do that with a single configurations. Please let me know if you know one. ;-) Thanks, Cameron.

Hello I would like to send some data to a DSP patch. I can use alsa controls (easy) but I need more : TRAM and lookup table. I read many lines of code, but all this is still quite obscure... Here are 3 questions : How can I fill the TRAM ? (from user space) How can I know which TRAM area has been allocated to a given patch ? Do 'lookup tables' work ? Some code samples will be greatly appreciated :) Thanks in advance. Note: I only know 2 sources of information about emu10k1 DSP, the alsa source code, and the old emu10k1 site at sourceforge. Hi, I would like to know the actual configuration for the output of the Beagle Board I2S, from the OMAP35x Reference Manual, on page 2887: • Enable the Sample Rate Generator (take it out of reset). Set McBSPi.MCBSPLP_SPCR2_REG[6] GRSTbit to1 to enable the Sample Rate Generator. After the Sample Rate Generator is enabled, wait for 2 CLKG cycles for the Sample Rate Generator logic to stabilize. * On the next rising edge of CLKSRG, the CLKG signal transitions to '1' and starts clocking with a frequency equal to (input clock frequency)/(CLKGDV + 1).* • If necessary, enable the receiver and/or the transmitter. [alsa-devel] Problems with maintaining a separate alsa-driver in a distribution

Hi, I'm maintaining the ALSA stack as a separate alsa-driver using the supplied tarballs from www.alsa-project.org unlike some popular distros which uses the in-kernel sound/ stack. This has the advantage of quickly acting against latest quirk or driver support changes and pushing a driver update instead of whole the kernel update. But there is a big disadvantage that I'm not able to figure out how to solve: When we enable the SND Kconfig option in kernel, some other sound support for some DVB devices(e.g. SAA7134 sound support, etc.) are enabled as well. So if you're using the in-kernel ALSA, you can enable and use them happily but in my case, those additional sound supports can't be enabled in kernel. Is there a way to hack around this when a separate alsa-driver is used in a distro? Is it technically possible to patch those tiny drivers onto alsa-driver and compile them if the .config file from the kernel source has enabled those DVB devices? Or maybe I should enable ALSA in-kernel, compile those DVB sound stuff and remove the sound/ directory from the kernel package? Hi guys, this patch improves the support for the MacBook 3,1, which had been handled by the "mbp3" model before. The "mbp3" model is quite inappropriate for the sound-chip of the MacBook 3,1 (RealTek ALC889A). Especially the lack of subwoofer support is one of the biggest disadvantages of this model (See bug 0004086). In contrast to the other models this model is part of the ALC883 configuration, which reflects the ALC889A sound-chip far better than the ALC882 configuration, which all other Apple models are part of. I myself own only a MacBook 3,1, but as far as I know it should also work for the MacBook 4,1 - perhaps even for other models. It would be good if someone could check this out... But this can easily be solved, by plugging the headphones out and in again or using the speaker switches in the mixer. I haven't managed to get "real" surround sound. It seems that the front channel is mapped to all other channels before they get to the mixers (front-left=front-left, front-right=front-right, rear-left=front-left, rear-right=front-right, LFE=front-right, center=front-right). Hello, The following patch should fix (or at least makes it less intrusive) the 'tuck' phenomena on observed on the twl4030 Headset outputs when the codec is going to standby mode. I have debugged this with the scope and if we are not waiting RAMP_DELAY time, the VMID is cut before it reaching 0, which generates the 'tuck'. Note that I have not removed the control for the RAMP_DELAY configuration, the code will use that to calculate the needed delay (also the sysfreq is needed, which also stored). However I do think that one should not touch the RAMP_DELAY... Here are some details: System: Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 Asus P5W DH Motherboard X-Fi eXtreme Music Intel HD audio onboard Software: Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.20. Compiled on May 16 2009 for kernel 2.6.28-11-generic (SMP). Running Kubuntu 9.04, with default packages. All major audio players tested and work fine. Aduiocious does not work with 24bit mode as reported before. System is stable, no issues encountered yet! Recording through the mic works flawlessly. Sound from speakers seem clear. Switching between intel HD onboard audio and xfi works fine, both enabled on the same system. P.S I installed the file alsa-driver-unstable-snapshot.tar.gz now my alsa version is 1.0.20 instead of .18, does that cause major issues? I thought the package will only install the module snd-ctxfi, not the whole alsa! or is that not possible. Let me know if you want me to run specific test. Regards.

I grabbed ALSA 1.0.20 and attempted to capture video from my Creative USB webcam and audio from my analog audio microphone. To my surprise there was audio being captured but only in bits and pieces, nothing audible. If I recorded the audio and played it back it sound like broken audio. I noticed this in the release notes: [ALSA] pcm-midlevel: Add more strict buffer position checks based on jiffies I assumed it had something to do with changes made in pcm_lib.c, so I replaced the ALSA 1.0.20 version of this file with the ALSA 1.0.19 version, rebuilt and I am now able to capture audio again from my analog microphone. I filed Bug Report 0004523 describing this problem. [alsa-devel] Advice on ASoC support for series of boards

I would like some advice before I start on a project to move our series of boards to the ASoC framework. All the boards shared the same I2S wiring and all but one have the same TI CODEC wired in similar configuration. The differences are in the presence and connection of a speaker AMP (GPIO controlled). Is there a standard method for binding an AMP to an driver, or is it necessary to have the AMPs in the driver itself? I'm adding the voice dai to sdp3430 machine driver, but the codec's "twl4030_voice_startup" function has a requirement for voice to work: the codec has to be in option2. How can I switch the codec to option2 mode? There is no control for doing that, and the only way I see is to directly modify the reg cache, but I assume that is not the right way to do it. Could you please clarify? -Misa
