Hi all in first thanks for your work, it permit us to make music with GNU Linux :) I'm Olivier from France. I work on linuxMAO.org website. It's a french website for music assisted by computer. In this website, i make an article for make work the tascam us-224 on GNU Linux. Sometime I was angry because all is'nt recognize on my sound card. (Like 4 faders for 4 tracks). So I make a letter in what i said something like that : "Hey Tascam, it's cool for you ? For me it's cool, because i buy your product and it's a good one, and now, i play music with my friend and children and many people. But, all doesn't work with my OS, GNU/Linux it's damage because you don't see that many people on linux and other OS, have to go to your concurent (like M-audio or RME) because they're more open than you. blablabla blablabla ..." They don't answer. ... :/ Another boy make another one few month ago. ... They don't answer too. ... :/ ... Last week, a new boy email me that, he was very happy because my website page for the TASCAM us 224 help him to make work on linux. (it was great, i'm happy) So i speak with him and said to him "hey, you can make an email to Tascam (in fact sennheiser in france, the official distributor for tascam products) and say to them "hello boys, can you give us the source code or specifications blablabla" " ... and this one, he answered positively ! The sennheiser man said to us that he speak with japanese guys who said "what they needs?". So, i'm not developper I search for the (one or many) people who made the tascam us 224 (and 122 and 448 i think) driver for ALSA system. because, we've got an open way to make it better. Hello, I have noticed that the support for multiple cards/codecs via the debugfs is kind of broken. The second codec, which tries to create the debugfs files would emit the following messages: ASoC: Failed to create codec register debugfs file Failed to create pop time debugfs file ... The following patch fixes this by adding a directory per codec to host the files. The additional directory is named as: {dev_name(socdev->dev)}-{codec->name} for example: debugfs/asoc/soc-audio.0-twl4030/... So it is easier to find the correct codec we are looking for. Hi, I'm currently developing an ALSA ioplug plugin which should transfer audio samples over UART to a DSP (I already wrote that in a previous post). The DSP wants to receive 156 - 164 audio samples with a sampling rate of 8 kHz and a format of S16_LE each 20 msec (which is more or less the number of audio samples multiplied by the period length of the sampling rate). My idea is to add a high precision delay to the transfer callback of the ALSA plugin. Unfortunately, I found out that the hrtimer resolution on the system is as low as 10ms: ------------------------------------------------------------------- kernel: hrtimer resolution: 0 sec, 10000000 nsec, loops_per_jiffy: 448512 ------------------------------------------------------------------- * Does this mean that if I use nanosleep for example each delay has to be an integral multiple of the hrtimer precision and for example a delay of 15ms would not be supported (since it is no integral multiple of 10ms) ? * It is possible to increase the precision (e.g. by changing the kernel configuration) ? * Do you know a better solution for the task, where the task is to send and receive audio samples to/from the DSP over UART and the timing is critical ? cheers, Stefan

Hi, I'm currently developing an ALSA ioplug plugin that should transfer audio samples to a DSP over UART. In my plugin code I set up the hardware constrains (HW_PERIOD_BYTES and HW_PERIODS being among them) and then I utilize the transfer callback to send the audio chunk over UART. The DSP application would like to have exactly 156 - 164 audio samples at a time, where the sampling rate has to be 8 kHz and the format is S16_LE. In between there has to be a delay of 20ms (which is equal to 164 audio frames at a sampling rate of 8 kHz (i.e. 164 * 125us = 20,5 ms). For this reason I configured HW_PERIOD_BYTES with these values. The result is that each time the transfer callback gets called, exactly 312 bytes (thus 164 frames with each one having 2 bytes) are transfered. However, what I do not understand is the setup of HW_PERIODS which is AFAIK the number of periods being transfered at a time ? * What is the influence of this constraint on my ioplug plugin ? * How does it change the way data is being transfered with the transfer callback ? * What would be the correct setup for the mentioned application ? cheers, stefan

The DMA params for McASP with FIFO has been updated so that it works for various FIFO levels. A member- 'fifo_level' has been added to the DMA params data structure. The fifo_level can be adjusted by the tx[rx]_numevt platform data. This is relevant only for DA8xx/OMAP-L1xx platforms. This implementation has been tested for numevt values 1, 2, 4, 8.
