The following patches fixes the default device as they appear for ICE1712-based cards. Without this cards, 'aplay -L' will show a series of devices like surround40 and surround71 that are not meaningful for this card, and a front device that would not work.

[alsa-devel] Could we get the card name in /sys/clas/sound/card0/name?

Heya! Hmm, it would be nifty if we could get the alsa card name (i.e. the one shown in [] in /proc/pcm/cards) as an attribute file in /sys/class/sound/cardX/name. Even more useful would be if this property would be writable so that the cards may be renamed during runtime. This could be very useful to establish stable card names via udev rules, similar to what is already done to network interface names ("eth0", ...). Would such a change be acceptable? At git://git.flameeyes.eu/others/alsa/alsa-lib.git (branch ice1712) you can find some fixes for ICE1712-based cards: Diego E. 'Flameeyes' Pettenò (2): Remove definition for surround sound devices on ICE1712. Make the front:idx device work for ICE1712. When using a custom spec->dinput_mux sometimes the value selected is incorrect due to not have a previously selected default. To remedy this patch selects the first items index in spec->dinput_mux and sets all the dmuxes thusly to it. [alsa-devel] "softswitch" feature?

Hello, I'd like to implement a PCM device with 2 slaves, that sends its stream to either slave according to a user-defined switch. I need this for a card that is able to play either 2-channel 16-bit big-endian frames to its analog output or IEC958 frames to its digital output. I'd like to setup a "default" device for this card that send sound to either output according to a switch. Is such a thing feasible with the existing plugins? If not, do you think it would be easy to implement? Note that, although my card implements this as 2 separate devices, they can't be open simultaneously since both use the same hardware fifo. Hence, I think it would require that the unused slave not be open. I also can imagine othen applications for such a feature, such as with a VOIP application to use either a standard soundcard connected to loudspeakers and a microphone, or a bluetooth headset. Reagrds, Nicolas PS: FWIW, the card I'm talking about is a hardware MPEG decoder board, whose driver I'm the maintainer of, an which implements an ALSA driver for its audio part. Dear Colleagues, I have installed a fresh Fedora 9, and I have an Echo Layla3G (pci) card. All I had to do was install the firmware, and it to playback out of Layla headphones. This device has other Outputs, how I can I easily select the other channels for playback? aplay -l show these (along withthe Intel HDA for the built-in audio device): card 1: Layla3G [Layla3G], device 0: Analog PCM [Layla3G] Subdevices: 8/8 Subdevice #0: subdevice #0 Subdevice #1: subdevice #1 Subdevice #2: subdevice #2 Subdevice #3: subdevice #3 Subdevice #4: subdevice #4 Subdevice #5: subdevice #5 Subdevice #6: subdevice #6 Subdevice #7: subdevice #7 so is it possible to type: aplay -D hw:1,0 thewavefile.wav and specify the subdevice? Or do I need to specify in my .asoundrc file an alias? with -D hw:1,0 I get sound out of Layla's headphone port only.
