[alsa-devel] alsa-utils: alsactl restore not working after system restart

Hi there. I am running Ubuntu 8.10 - and latest ALSA. After restart amixer defaults to default settings. I am not really sure if this is Ubuntu/Debian specific or an Alsa issue. It seems that either a link /var/lib/alsa/asound.state to /etc/asound.state is needed or that /etc/init.d/alsa-utils needs to be updated within the restore section accordingly. With the link workaround I managed to get it working. Cheers Klaus

I have a M3N78 Pro motherboard, and am running alsa 1.0.18a on it. I had HDMI audio working on it, but for some reason it has stopped. I really didn't change too much about the computer, other then take out a hvr-1800, and put in a hvr-1600. I did try to go up to .27 kernel, but had other problems and went back to .26. Recompiled alsa 1.0.18a and even tried multiple versions of the nvidia drivers. (173, 177).. And now I have just tried the snapshot with the same results. I believe it was recognised as a ALC883 before, and not is is a ALC1200, but I'm not completely sure about it. Hello, I need some help/advice on how to implement the DAPM routings for twl4030 capture path. There are at least two issues which I'm wondering at the moment. So ATXL1_PGA and ATXR1_PGA receives the data either from the ADCs or from the digimic0, ATXL2_PGA and ATXR2_PGA receives the data either from the ADCs or from the digimic1. As you can see, if the digital mic is selected the ADC can be powered off, since they are not needed. How to map this with DAPM? Is it mandatory to have the SND_SOC_DAPM_INPUT(digimic) to be connected to SND_SOC_DAPM_ADC? I have been thinking to create four 'ghost ADC' for the four channel. The xruns seem to be all on the same card. IRQs are set to priority of 99 with chrt. Software for record is arecord, modified to use a 10 second ring buffer which is written to disk in a separate thread. I was hoping that from the stack trace I could work out what was causing the xruns, but from the above it dosent look like there is anything causing them. Hi, I am getting difficulty setting up ALSA for my new HP portable computer. lspci displays the audio chip as : Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) HD Audio Controller (rev 03) and /proc/asound displays the codec as IDT 92HD71B7X I have uploaded the detailed hardware and configuration parameters to http://pagesperso-orange.fr/b.andre/visits.html/92HD71B7X I am using Fedora 10 x86_64 without pulseaudio and with the latest alsa-driver : alsa-driver-1.0.18a.16.g4012f.139.g6e583.tar.bz2 I have googled for a similar problem, but did not get to an actual fix, the following thread appears to deal with a most similar situation : http://forums.opensuse.org/pre-release-beta/399731-beta-5-no-sound.html After several tries, I have set modprobe.conf as alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel options sound slots=snd-hda-intel options snd-hda-intel model=hp-m4 single_cmd=1 enable_msi=1 Results : aplay freezes, with some sound output which is the continual repeat of the initial expected sound (some fraction of a second repeated). However if I boot with pci=noacpi the output is correct (I do not understand the relation of power management to sound, there must be one as I see : HDA Intel 0000:00:1b.0: power state changed by ACPI to D0 when I unload/reload alsa) WITHOUT the pci=noacpi option : - mplayer outputs the sound correctly (does mplayer bypass alsa ?) - xine outputs a chopped sound (some 100ms OK, some 100ms silent, some 100ms OK, etc, with a period which could be 200..500ms) - most players (eg Real player) just freeze. I would say that when some sound buffer gets empty, the driver does not get the information, so it does not fill the buffer again. I have done some digging into the code. I see that this 92HD71B7X chip is supported for HP dv5 and dv7 computers (subsystem ID 103c30f2 and 103C30f4), but mine is a HP dv4 showing a subsystem ID 103c30f7, so it must be somewhat different and not supported yet. Can anybody suggest some fix ? If needed I can apply patches to the code and do some testing so that my configuration gets supported in subsequent versions. Regards Jean-Pierre

I have just bought an Aspire one A150, XP version, as it was the only available here, and installed ubuntu on it. Bugs I discovered so far: ** 1 - embedded controler works in polling mode, due to this: [ 0.708571] ACPI: EC: non-query interrupt received, switching to interrupt mode [ 1.224043] ACPI: EC: missing confirmations, switch off interrupt mode. Maybe this is the reason for the fact that gnome power manager freezes when I unplug the AC, and freezes often when I try to see battery status. (Note: same is seen on my acer aspire 5720) ** 2 - wireless: not to mention the fact that ath5k wasn't installed by default in ubuntu... wireless more or less works, but kernel log is full of backtraces. Was able to connect to my WPA2 access point. Sometimes wireless fails completely, especially after suspend to ram. Advanced features like monitor/injection work, but when I changed the card's mac address it stopped working. I also noticed that if I then start airodump, then wireless works with new mac. ** 3 - internal mic doesn't work. tried model=acer, model=auto. Overall it seems that alsa misprograms O/B realteck codec. I talk about this later. Have same issue on my acer 5720 ** 4 - wireless led doesn't work. ath5k devs, can you fix this? ** 5 - coretemp doesn't show cpu temperature, I have seen somewhere that atom support same thermal diode as core2 and only patch to detect it is needed. Please include such path in 2.6.28 if exists. ** 6 - both card readers are missing from lspci, is this normal? ** 7 - opengl is broken, I tried running neverball in fullscreen, but it shows wrong/corrupted textures (compiz is running, and working well thought) Now I installed 2.6.28-rc3 (actually latest -git) Sadly nothing improved. I only found few regressions: * Wireless now drops connection from my WPA2 access point after few minutes. I changed temporarily its wireless protection to WEP and open mode, and both work fine, maybe this is related to periodic key exchange WPA does? * System doesn't reboot/shutdown, just hangs. Hi, Indeed gpio #3 controls the led. I patched ath5k to use it, and led works now fine. What I dislike is the way led blinks: While nether I like constant rate blinking implemented in windows driver, I don't like the fact that led blinks too fast, sometimes the blink time is so short that led doesn't show full brightness. I think there should be a minimal interval for blinking. Also I don't know what is assumed better, when led is always on, but turns off when active of vise versa? (Due to short intervals, when I set it for first option, it is almost always on, and I almost don't see the interval when it is off) Best regards, Maxim Levitsky

Hi Takashi, I am developing a USB gadget driver compliant to USB Audio Class Spec 2.0. So I want to open a PCM substream and do some playback of capture, then close them? I found snd_pcm_open_substream() is for opening a substream and attach it to a file. But in my application, there is no need to open a file before opening a substream. - Is there any interface for me to open a substream in kernel space without attach to a file? - How to playback and capture in kernel space, use snd_pcm_lib_write and snd_pcm_lib_read? - How to get the snd_pcm_hardware struct from low level driver, because I have to get the hardware configuration of the snd pcm device? And I am reading the code of OSS emulator in ALSA. It provides some info about the kernel space sound card programming. Thanks a lot -Bryan
