VT1720/24 [Envy24PT/HT] PCI Multi-Channel Audio Controller (rev 01) Subsystem: TERRATEC Electronic GmbH PHASE 22 Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 64, IRQ 16 I/O ports at c880 [size=32] I/O ports at c800 [size=128] Capabilities: [80] Power Management version 1 Kernel driver in use: ICE1724 Kernel modules: snd-ice1724 I do this: mplayer -ao alsa:device=hw=1.0 -srate 44100 -format s32le get_video Before the song ends, last sample loops for about 20-30 times, and then mplayer quits with error: alsa-lib: pcm_hw.c:488:(snd_pcm_hw_drain) SNDRV_PCM_IOCTL_DRAIN failed: Input/output error This doesn't happen on sound-2.6 and doesn't happen on sound-unstable-2.6 with E-mu 1212m. -- Vedran Miletić

[alsa-devel] Creative X-Fi driver integration

Hi, is it possible to include Creative driver into alsa drivers package, so it will be available right after kernel installation without additional compiling? Besides, you can react faster to kernel changes and make driver compatible with latest kernels when necessary, if you include it.

Hello, I have hit a strange bug. To reproduce: 1. Build snd-pcsp.ko. 2. alsamixer -c pcsp, set the base frequency to 37286 Hz 3. $ speaker-test -r 22050 -P 4 -D plughw:pcsp speaker-test 1.0.18 Playback device is plughw:pcsp Stream parameters are 22050Hz, S16_LE, 1 channels Using 16 octaves of pink noise Rate set to 22050Hz (requested 22050Hz) Buffer size range from 37 to 38756 Period size range from 18 to 19379 Using max buffer size 38756 Periods = 4 was set period_size = 0 was set buffer_size = 38756 0 - Front Left Floating point exception I.e., as you see, period size somehow became 0. While debugging this with printfs, I noticed that the interval for periods in snd_pcm_hw_param_set_near() starts with 4, but doesn't include it (i.e., is open). Also, I found that snd_interval_refine_first() and snd_interval_refine_last(), when given an open interval, refine it to something like (n n+1). This is obviously wrong, as there are no integer points in this interval. Changing i->max++ and i->min-- there to adjust the value by 2 did eliminate the floating point exception, but replaced it with "Unable to set nperiods 4 for playback: Invalid argument". So there must be something else also wrong, but I can't pinpoint it and give you a ready-made patch :( -- Alexander E. Patrakov

[alsa-devel] Query for running OSS application on ALSA

Hi, I have been using OSS drivers and applications. Now I have moved to ALSA SoC framework supported in the kernel. I have got the same OSS application running on this ALSA SoC framework but I have the following observation: When I run the OSS application to playback some audio through ALSA SoC framework, and I send CTRL+C signal to terminate the application, I see a delay of around 3-4 sec before the application really close. I traced and found out that it takes lot of time in snd_pcm_drain in pcm_native.c . But if I run some ALSA application, I do not see this delay in terminating the application. Is there some known issue with OSS emulation of ALSA SoC framework? I feel that some buffers are being drained out to the audio codec and hence this time is consumed. Is their some configuration for the buffer size? Can I directly stop the data transfer to codec and discard the remaining data? Your help is highly appreciated. Thanks and Regards, Anshuman

Hi All ... I am running Fedora 9 with 2.6.27.4 kernel. I have download and instaled ALSA 1.0.18. Card is EUROTECH INC CATALYST with Intel ATOM processor and Intel System Controler Hub US15W. Attached is output from alsa-info.sh and /proc/asound/card0. I have run bunch of different voice test but no sound on either output on this card. I have compile alsa library pcm test and run on this board no sound. I have activated and added some dignostic to hda controler code

I've been trying to check out the latest alsa-driver source to do some work on it. [alsa-devel] via82xx: unreliable audio, strange mixer behavior

Hi, I'm using snd-via82xx on an Ubuntu 8.04 system. alsa-info.sh output is here: http://www.alsa-project.org/db/?f=1c3d5570e7b57d4d2f79b964a323dd7b4efd7e78 Here are the symptoms: Audio goes away after a semi-random interval. Sometimes it returns after `modprobe -r snd-via82xx' followed by `modprobe snd-via82xx', but sometimes it seems to take a full reboot. This looks similar to: https://bugtrack.alsa-project.org/alsa-bug/view.php?id=3D3194 Some folks think that this kind of issue is triggered by audio volume being above a certain level. I'm not entirely sure if this is true, but I think it is. One time, I apparently triggered the issue by unplugging and replugging the audio cable from the mainboard during playback. Audio can be heard even when the PCM volume level is 0 (as told by alsamixer). The volume does get louder when I turn up that mixer control, but it never goes away entirely when I turn the volume to zero. Mute works as expected. This issue is impacting a significant project for me and my company. I'm willing to spend as much time as it takes to debug, and I'm fairly technical.
