Ugh...  This is way too many branches in a single octopus merge.
(An octopus has only eight arms in nature, so we shouldn't break the
 natural rule. :)

Seriously, this makes too ugly to show up in gitk & co.  I don't mind
the merge of a few branches.  But, this... 

Couldn't you digest in a better way?
