[alsa-devel] how to check the CODEC registers vaule

Hello everyone,I am confused again : (

I read the wm8985.pdf and found the description:

 

If the address is not recognised or the R/W bit is '1' when operating in
write only mode,the WM8985 returns to the idle conditon and waits for a
new start condition and valid address.

 

Does it mean the wm8985 registers write only, can not be read?

I found other kinds of codec datasheet same as it. Is it necessary to
read back the value from the register ?
