It might be possible there's some poor resampling or erroneous datatype
conversion in your signal chain, probably in userspace. This would
explain why it occurs on all your cards.
What you can try: playback of a lossless (read: wav, flac) file directly
to ALSA without dmix, pulseaudio, phonon or whatever. This is your
baseline for comparison. If this "really sounds worse than Windows" (I
could hardly type this undifferentiated phrase), then it's some DSP code
on the Windows side.
