[alsa-devel] 5.1 surround sound with Hercules Fortissimo II
I am thinking of buying a 5.1 surround sound speakers.
I like to watch DIVX/XVID movies with KAFFEINE and they are all AC3 encoded. So will the surround sound work properly with Ubuntu Feisty and ALSA 1.0.14?
I have Hercules Fortissimo II soundcard.
Thank U in advance

The SPDIF output on CS46xx-based sound card unlikely works. It's a long-standing bug that transferring non-audio often breaks because of lack of proper SPDIF status bits setting.
I have no clue yet what to fix this...

I do not know if I understood U correctly but at the moment 5.1 surround sound is not possible with Hercules Fortissimo II, correct?

It depends on what you need for your surround box. If you connect the digital (SPDIF) output for AC3/DTS, it doesn't work. If you connect 3 analog output jacks, it *might* work. The 5.1 *analog* output is supported on *some* boards with cs46xx chip.
