These are for replace "platform" to "component". It needs 3 steps I think. step1. "component" needs _add_ function, like "platform" step2. "component" level pcm_new/free support step3. replace platform to component
We can get platform pointer from rtd->platform on current style. But these are very categorized pointer, in other words, non generic pointer. This cleanup is 1st step of merging all feature into component. I think new style wil be
CPU + Codec + Platform = Component
I think merging CPU into Component is already done. This patch set merges Platform feature into Component, and remove Platform. Merging Codec into Component is next step.
This patch set will add new rtd connected component list. All CPU/Codec/Platform are connected to this list. And we can get each component pointer by using rtd and its driver name. Here, We can replace rtd->platform like below

ALSA SoC platform/codec will be replaced to component soon. This means 1 device might have multiple components. But current unregister component function only checks "dev" to find it. This means, unexpected component might be unregistered by current function. But, it is no problem if driver registered only 1 component.
To avoid this issue, this patch adds new component unregister_exp/lookup/remove functions. "lookup" function finds component by "dev" and "driver name", and "remove" function removes it. "unregister_exp" will use these functions.
Here, the reason why it uses "driver name" is that "component name" was created by fmt_single_name() and difficult to use it from driver. Driver of course knows its "driver name", thus, using it is more easy.
Current normal unregister function is replaced to "unregister_exp" with driver_name = NULL macro.

This was what I was thinking of. It might not actually be the most sensible thing but I'm pretty sure it's what I was thinking when things were set up originally, if there's other use cases we might need to change.

OK, I see.
The main headache of "platform" replacement to "component" was dmaengine. (If my memory was correct) It only uses "lookup", "remove" kind of function on unregister. But, if we can unregister all component by 1 calls, these kind of headache will gone.

Current soc-core has snd_soc_register_component(), but doesn't have snd_soc_add_component() like snd_soc_add_platform(). This patch adds it.

These are v2 of Component level pcm_new/free. Because of platform replacement method, and its specific callback, v1 pcm_new/free (which was already reverted) was wrong.
I think this v2 solves this issue. But unexpected issue might be happen, but I don't know. Special thanks to Arnaud who tested this v2 patch on his environment.

Current snd_soc_pcm_runtime has platform / codec pointers, and we could use these specific pointer. But these will be replaced to more generic "component" soon, and will need more generic method to get each connected component pointer from rtd.
This patch adds new snd_soc_rtdcom_xxx() to connect/disconnect component to rtd. It means same as previous "platform" / "codec" pointer style, but more generic. We can find necessary component pointer from rtd by using component driver name on snd_soc_rtdcom_lookup().

Basically, current ALSA SoC framework is based on CPU/Codec/Platform, but its operation doesn't have consistent. Thus, source code was unreadable, and difficult to understand. This patch connects each component (= CPU/Codec/Platform) to rtd by using snd_soc_rtdcom_add(), and convert uneven operations to consistent operation.

In current ALSA SoC, Platform only has pcm_new/pcm_free feature, but it should be supported on Component level. This patch adds it.
The v1 was added commit 99b04f4c4051f7 ("ASoC: add Component level pcm_new/pcm_free") but it called all "card" connected component's pcm_new/free, it was wrong. This patch calls "rtd" connected component.

These patches replace platform to component, and remove platform. I think I need to post these kind of patches in many times (= v2, v3...). But there are too many patches. So, in review timing, I will post few of them to reduce traffic. Basically, almost all driver needs similar replacement.

ASoC: remove rtd->platform checck
has been applied to the asoc tree at
https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/broonie/sound.git
All being well this means that it will be integrated into the linux-next tree (usually sometime in the next 24 hours) and sent to Linus during the next merge window (or sooner if it is a bug fix), however if problems are discovered then the patch may be dropped or reverted.
You may get further e-mails resulting from automated or manual testing and review of the tree, please engage with people reporting problems and send followup patches addressing any issues that are reported if needed.
If any updates are required or you are submitting further changes they should be sent as incremental updates against current git, existing patches will not be replaced.

has been applied to the asoc tree at
https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/broonie/sound.git
All being well this means that it will be integrated into the linux-next tree (usually sometime in the next 24 hours) and sent to Linus during the next merge window (or sooner if it is a bug fix), however if problems are discovered then the patch may be dropped or reverted.
You may get further e-mails resulting from automated or manual testing and review of the tree, please engage with people reporting problems and send followup patches addressing any issues that are reported if needed.
If any updates are required or you are submitting further changes they should be sent as incremental updates against current git, existing patches will not be replaced.
