The Edirol M-16DX has been working out of the box with ALSA (using firmware v1.21), capable of recording 18 channels, until upgraded to firmware v2.0.

symptom: When connected via USB, the device's lcd displays "USB ON LINE" which never disappears. Sound still goes through the device but the interface (knobs, buttons) don't react any more. On the computer, the sound device gets listed, but it cannot be opened.

I'll be more than happy to provide more info and to test possible solutions. This is a wonderful device and it was working like a charm until the firmware change.
