[alsa-devel] [PATCH v4 00/22] soundwire: code cleanup
SoundWire support will be provided in Linux with the Sound Open Firmware (SOF) on Intel platforms. Before we start adding the missing pieces, there are a number of warnings and style issues reported by checkpatch, cppcheck and Coccinelle that need to be cleaned-up.
Changes since v3: patch 1,3,4 were merged for 5.2-rc1 No code change, only split patch2 in 21 patches to make Vinod happy. Each patch only fixes a specific issue. patch 5 is now patch22 and wasn't changed. Not sure why Vinod reported the patch didn't apply. Added Takashi's Reviewed-by tag in all patches since the code is exactly the same as in v3.
Changes since v2: fixed inversion of devm_kcalloc parameters, detected while rebasing additional patches.

As I said previously this touches subsystem header as well as driver headers which is not ideal. Also I agree with Greg, SPDX line format is a requirement but not the copyright one but that is not a deal breaker here.

This is doing "one logical thing" to all of the needed files. Your split of "this is a driver" vs. "this is a subsystem" split is _VERY_ arbritary.
That's just too picky and assumes a subsystem-internal-knowledge much deeper than anyone submitting a normal cleanup patch would ever know.
I think you have swung too far to the "too picky" side, you might want to dial it back.

Sure I do agree that this assumes internal knowledge but the contributor knows the subsystem extremely well and he knows the different parts. For drive by contributor I agree things would be not that picky :)
Even considering the patch series, some split was even file based and in this case not done. All I ask is for consistency in the series proposed.

Vinod, your distinction between subsystem and driver is quite arbitrary and borderline unreasonable. I would counter that the Intel parts have actually nothing to do in this drivers/soundwire directory and should be moved to the SOF tree if you push your own logic one step. There already known variations on capabilities and number of links which would be better handled in sound/soc/sof/intel, just like SoundWire slaves are expected to be in sound/soc/codecs.
Besides this fixes *newlines*...
I will send an update but I am not happy about the directions here.

Thanks Greg, I would still like modification to patches that touch core subsystem parts and drivers in a single one. Otherwise changes are fine.
