At Fri, 30 Jan 2009 19:10:54 +0100, This looks weird. Could you try the latest alsa-driver snapshot and see whether you get a better (complete) /proc/asound/card0/codec#* outputs?
ftp://ftp.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/people/tiwai/snapshot/alsa-driver-sna pshot.tar.gz
If you still get a strange output, try to load the module with probe_only=1 option and get the codec proc output.
thanks,

Had some free time and replaced Fedora Cambridge by Ubuntu Jaunty. The codec shows up now: stephan@intel32ub904:~$ head -n 1 /proc/asound/card0/codec* Codec: Realtek ALC888
But I'm still unable to run alsamixer: stephan@intel32ub904:~$ alsamixer -c0
alsamixer: function snd_mixer_load failed: Invalid argument
I already tried today's alsa-driver-snapshot, but my problems weren't solved just by replacing the drivers. I'll need some help configuring them when it points out that they are the cause of my troubles. Have a look at http://www.alsa- project.org/db/?f=dc5b8f157a91a9f9d3edbd948a0c581ab5d60bd1 or at alsa-info- ubuntu in the attachment. Any help is welcome. :)
Greetings, Stephan
