Hi,
I am having problems with the left audio channel when using the nVidia MCP61 chipset. It first cropped up when I bought a new machine at home, and at the time I figured it was probably faulty hardware. However, I recently acquired another machine with the same chipset, and the problem occurs on it too, so now I'm thinking it might be a driver problem.
The problem is that the left audio channel emits a high-pitched squeal whenever the audio device is in use. The right channel works normally. Also, trying to adjust the volume causes all sound to stop working until I uninstall and re-install all the modules relevant for sound.
I haven't done anything fancy to try and fix the problem since I don't know a whole lot about ALSA. I'm just using whatever configuration Ubuntu 7.04 magically decided would be best.
lspci of one of the machines is appended. Can anyone point me in the direction of what I need to do to fix this? I searched the mailing list archive and couldn't find anything directly relevant.
Did you try the latest ALSA version?
