I don't think there are many people who really care about this. I personally don't know any. In fact, ALSA is the only kernel subsystem I know that works the way it does now.
It depends on the definition of "people". Developers don't care, of course. But users, more specifically bug reporters/testers, do care. It'll surprise you how many reporters don't use SCM in the debug sessions when you see ALSA bugtracks. They really prefer an easy installable tarball.
