What kernel version are you using? Are there any messages in the system log when you load the snd-hda-intel driver? What model do you mean with "the new imac"? What are the contents of /proc/asound/card0/codec#0?

As for when I mean new imac, I mean the new update that took place a few weeks ago. here is cat /proc/asound/* dmesg,lspci is in the file imacinfo. attached.
didn't mean to be impatient, the feeling of being helpless, and unable to create code is a horrible feeling. (and also not able to listen to tunes)
