Via edma-pcm you can disable the period interrupts so for example PA can work in this mode. You have big enough buffer and you do not get any interrupts during audio, just user space timer to check the audio status every now and then. This was not possible with the davinci-pcm.
I use a 4MB buffer for that 16-channels-of-32-bits system, usually with 8 periods of 512kB each.
Glad to hear, if you ever need to update the kernel, the edma-pcm conversion will not going to cause you regression ;)
