[alsa-devel] [PATCH] Support mic automute for Clevo M720R/SR
by Herton Ronaldo Krzesinski 22 Mar '08
by Herton Ronaldo Krzesinski 22 Mar '08
22 Mar '08
Add support for mic automute in clevo-m720r ALC883 model, and rename it
to more generic clevo-m720. Also change model entry in ALSA-Configuration.txt
accordingly.

Hi,
I'm just upgraded to kernel 2.6.24 and I'm seeing a kernel OOPS every
time I unload the snd_ymfpci module...
Below is what I see in my log. My naive interpretation of this is that
the system is barfing in the interrupt handler at the time it is
trying to free the interrupt.... so maybe the interrupt hasn't been
disabled properly before the free_irq() call? As I say, it's a naive
interpretation.
Anyway, I'd appreciate it if somebody could look this over and tell me
what my next step should be. I'm available to debug if necessary.
Thanks,
Gerard

Pavel;
I have been following this closely since I have the juli@ card and have been
having problems getting it to work at rates and bit depths other than
44.1/16 and 48/16 on the spdif output. I will be happy to provide a Juli@
card to support the work and keep this going. I’m working with a record
company that is about to start releasing audio at 176.4/24 and the current
playback options are very limited and expensive for that format. The Juli@
can open a lot of new options but it needs proper support. Let me know if
you need it.

[alsa-devel] Accessing pcm samples from snd_pcm_channel_area_t in an io type plugin
by Pharaoh . 21 Mar '08
by Pharaoh . 21 Mar '08
21 Mar '08
Hi,
I am writing an external io type plugin for an ARM based board. In the
transfer function
of the plugin, I try to grab the audio samples in a temp buffer and send it
to the DSP in
chunks of period sizes. Somehow the the alsa buffer's audio samples are not
copied to the
temp buffer which I want to send further.
What I do to copy the buffers,
static snd_pcm_sframes_t my_transfer(snd_pcm_ioplug_t *io,
const snd_pcm_channel_area_t *areas,
snd_pcm_uframes_t offset,
snd_pcm_uframes_t size)
{
char *temp = NULL;
temp = malloc(io->period_size * frame_size); //For malloc,
//I tried all the three approaches here one by one, including the
malloc/memcpy one
1. memcpy(temp,areas->addr+ offset*io->channels*2, io->period_size *
frame_size);
2. memcpy(temp, (char *)areas->addr + (areas->first + areas->step *
offset) /8, io->period_size * frame_size);
//This should work straight off....
3. temp = (char *)areas->addr + (areas->first + areas->step * offset) /
8;
//write temp to DSP here
.........
}
Somehow the empty buffers are being sent to DSP, when I try to send some
data from a static array then it goes
to DSP and is played well. Any idea what I am missing?
-phraoh.

Hi All,
Can anyone throw some light on the buffer management part in the ALSA
framework? How and where it is implemented? And what is expected from
the driver, which is hooking its code to the framework?
Thanks in advance,
Anuj Aggarwal

Hi Takashi,
Juli support required some changes to ice1724.c/ice1712.h. Since Juli
uses different clock scheme than most other ice1712/24 cards, I had to
move all clock-specific code to card-specific routines. Most of them are
redefined in juli.c.
The driver is tested, only analog-in and digital-in monitors are not
working. I have coded according to manufacturer's documentation, the
same procedure is in OSS Juli driver. I described the issue in detail in
the code, perhaps someone will do more research.
The card itself has no HW master volume control. It would have to be
implemented as a virtual control manipulating internal values of PCM and
monitor volume controls. I will take a look at it later. For now,
perhaps we could rename the PCM Volume to Master Volume, as most people
will not need the monitoring anyway. I will leave it to your decision.
Signed-off-by: Pavel Hofman <dustin(a)seznam.cz>
* moving all clock-specific code to card-specific routines
* support for ESI Juli
* to-be-researched - monitoring of analog/digital inputs
* missing - master volume control, will have to be implemented as
virtual, no HW support.
Thanks,
Pavel.

Hello,
I am using Alsa with the Pulseaudio plugin on Fedora 8,
with the RPMs listed below:
alsa-utils-1.0.15-1.fc8
alsa-lib-devel-1.0.15-1.fc8
alsa-plugins-pulseaudio-1.0.15-2.fc8
alsa-lib-1.0.15-1.fc8
I am using the default configuration files from the
alsa-plugins-pulseaudio RPM package.
I have configured a static address on my server, this static address is set
when my server boots.
With my network cable plugged in, running 'amixer' returns the simple mixer
controls on my server.
However, when I run 'amixer' with my network cable unplugged, there is a long
pause followed by the error message below:
amixer: ctl_pulse.c:576: server_info_cb: Assertion 'ctl && i' failed
Aborted
Is there any way this assertion can be prevented?
If so, how can I prevent this from happening?
Thanks in advance

[alsa-devel] [PATCH] Use common 3stack-6ch mixer for 3stack-hp model
by Herton Ronaldo Krzesinski 20 Mar '08
by Herton Ronaldo Krzesinski 20 Mar '08
20 Mar '08
Forgot one more: 3stack-hp model also have now the same mixer as
3stack-6ch (after DAC assignment fix in ALC883), so use it avoiding
duplicating the same mixer definition.

[alsa-devel] 2.6.25-rc6-00074-g264e3e8: serious problem with ALSA Intel-HDA and MSI
by Prakash Punnoor 20 Mar '08
by Prakash Punnoor 20 Mar '08
20 Mar '08
Hi,
I didn't test an earlier 2.6.25-rc kernel, as I had no working nvidia
driver... But the problem I am reporting happens before nvidia gets loaded.
With 2.6.24.3 the ALSA driver didn't made any troubles for me. Stock kernel
and enable_msi=1 made the driver to get a timeout and go back to legacy IRQ.
With patches from
http://kerneltrap.org/mailarchive/linux-kernel/2007/11/25/443612
2.6.24.x even works with MSI.
Now with above 2.6.25-rc kernel regardless of using above patch, the kernel
_hangs_ now when trying to initialize ALSA. It is even so bad, that doing a
hw reset and trying to load patched 2.6.24 kernel causes ALSA to hang when
trying to enable MSI. I need to turn power off and then patched 2.6.24 with
MSI works again.
2.6.25-rc with ALSA Intel HDA _not_ forcing enable_msi causes it to boot.
to summarize:
2.6.24 + patch + enable_msi=1: OK (and HDA MSI)
2.6.24 + enable_msi=1: OK (and HDA legacy IRQ)
2.6.24 + patch: OK (and HDA legacy IRQ)
2.6.24: OK (and HDA legacy IRQ)
2.6.25-rc + patch + enable_msi=1: hang
2.6.25-rc + enable_msi=1: hang
2.6.25-rc + patch: OK (and HDA legacy IRQ)
2.6.25-rc: OK (and HDA legacy IRQ)
I don't know whether something in Linux MSI support was changed having effect
on ALSA or whether the HDA driver has a regression.
Is there a patch I can apply ontop of 2.6.24.3 to find out whether ALSA or
possible MSI updates are the cause?
I will be away from my desktop in 2 days for a month, so I cannot do a lot of
testing nor bisecting.
