Hi, In short I have a USB to 3.5mm adapter which seems not to work in duplex mode on USB2.0 systems, possibly due to a bandwidth calculation bug. This is an evolution of an issue I previously posted on the users list with no luck. I have an Anker USB-C to 3.5mm audio dongle (lsusb: Conexant Systems (Rockwell), Inc. Hi-Res Audio) which I've used for some time on my phone (Android with USB-3.2). On trying to use it with an older T420 laptop recently with only USB-2.0 ports I discovered it will not work in duplex mode. Input-only and output-only profiles work (tested recording and playback with audacity), but with duplex no sound is recorded (Fedora 39, pipewire). This is easily reproduced by looking at the pavucontrol volume monitor for Output Devices, if I switch the device to Analog or Digital Input in configuration then the Input Devices level monitor for it shows activity if I speak into or tap the microphone. With duplex selected there is no activity, the level monitor bar may or may not display. I can switch between the two behaviours by changing the profile. Various applications such as Audacity and Zoom appear to hang when accessing this microphone with the duplex profile set. I've used pipewire configuration to force the format to 16LE only (playback and recording), but this has not helped. In dmesg this error appears when this happens (microphone opened, for example by pavucontrol): [ 294.825544] usb 1-1.1: cannot submit urb 0, error -28: not enough bandwidth (T420, Fedora 39, kernel 6.7.5) The T420 has USB 2 Type A ports, so a Type C to Type A adapter is needed, but the problem is not limited to the T420 laptop. On an older Samsung Tablet (Tab-A 2019, USB-2.0 Type C, kernel 4.4.177) I've been able to test using Google Meet. Although there are no errors or freezing observed, in headphone mode over USB the headphone microphone is not being used and the tablet uses its onboard microphone instead (although headphones are selected and playback is over the headphones). Again, I can record (via voice recorder) from the headset microphone, just no duplex. Trying google meet on my phone (USB3.2) I do get duplex over the USB-3.5 adapter. This seems like some kind of bandwidth calculation problem in snd_usb_audio. I've tried building a kernel and modifying various of the defines in sound/usb/card.h (currently MAX_PACKS 4 and MAX_PACKS_HS (MAX_PACKS * 4), compared to 6 and *8) but not hit on a winning formula yet. Hi, I have a system where I need to handle an HDLC interface and some audio data. The HDLC data are transferred using a TDM bus on which a PEF2256 (E1/T1 framer) is present. The PEF2256 transfers data from/to the TDM bus to/from the E1 line. This PEF2256 is connected to a PowerQUICC SoC for the control path and the TDM is connected to the SoC (QMC component) for the data path. From the QMC HDLC driver, I need to handle HDLC data using the QMC, carrier detection using the PEF2256 (E1 line carrier) and set/get some PEF2256 configuration. The QMC HDLC driver considers the PEF2256 as a generic framer. It performs operations that involve the PEF2256 through the generic framer API. The audio data are exchanged with the PEF2256 using a CPU DAI connected to the TDM bus through the QMC and the PEF2256 needs to be seen as a codec in order to be linked to the CPU DAI. The codec handles the carrier detection using the PEF2256 and reports the carrier state to the ALSA subsystem using the ASoC jack detection. The codec, even if instantiated by the PEF2256 driver, considers the PEF2256 as a generic framer. [PATCH v7 0/5] ASoC: makes CPU/Codec channel connection map more generic

Hi Mark Cc Bard, Pierre-Louis, Jerome, DT-ML This is v7 patch-set. Current ASoC is supporting CPU/Codec = N:M (N < M) connection by using ch_map idea. This patch-set expands it that all connection uses this idea, and no longer N < M limit [1][2]. [PATCH v13 00/16] Add audio support in v4l2 framework

Audio signal processing also has the requirement for memory to memory similar as Video. This asrc memory to memory (memory ->asrc->memory) case is a non real time use case. User fills the input buffer to the asrc module, after conversion, then asrc sends back the output buffer to user. So it is not a traditional ALSA playback and capture case. It is a specific use case, there is no reference in current kernel. v4l2 memory to memory is the closed implementation, v4l2 current support video, image, radio, tuner, touch devices, so it is not complicated to add support for this specific audio case. Because we had implemented the "memory -> asrc ->i2s device-> codec" use case in ALSA. Now the "memory->asrc->memory" needs to reuse the code in asrc driver, so the first 3 patches is for refining the code to make it can be shared by the "memory->asrc->memory" driver. The main change is in the v4l2 side, A /dev/vl4-audioX will be created, user applications only use the ioctl of v4l2 framework. This series performs a cleanup of most of the MediaTek AFE drivers and soundcard machine drivers, reducing code duplication and setting a base to be consistent with their devicetree bindings, as many of those are using different properties and nodes for no good reason. Summarizing: - Commonizes functions and ops where possible - Adds a common probe mechanism, increasing maintainability of soundcard drivers for older MediaTek SoCs - Migrates all drivers to support the new bindings - Obviously retains compatibility with old device trees - Reduces machine-specific parameters hardcoding in drivers - Can now set machine-specific params in device tree - Uses the `audio-routing` and `dai-link` nodes like some other non-MediaTek SoC sound drivers - Imposes consistency between MediaTek ASoC machine soundcard drivers bindings - Reduces code size and greatly reduces the amount of code that will be required for newer drivers (retaining compatibility with the old bindings was costly in terms of code size, otherwise this series would've removed ~1000 more lines, or something along that line). This series was (manually) tested on MT8173, MT8192, MT8195 and MT8186 Chromebooks. [PATCH] ASoC: soc-card: Fix missing locking in snd_soc_card_get_kcontrol()

snd_soc_card_get_kcontrol() must be holding a read lock on card->controls_rwsem while walking the controls list. Compare with snd_ctl_find_numid(). The existing function is renamed snd_soc_card_get_kcontrol_locked() so that it can be called from contexts that are already holding card->controls_rwsem (for example, control get/put functions). There are few direct or indirect callers of snd_soc_card_get_kcontrol(), and most are safe. Three require changes, which have been included in this patch: codecs/cs35l45.c: cs35l45_activate_ctl() is called from a control put() function so is changed to call snd_soc_card_get_kcontrol_locked(). codecs/cs35l56.c: cs35l56_sync_asp1_mixer_widgets_with_firmware() is called from control get()/put() functions so is changed to call snd_soc_card_get_kcontrol_locked(). fsl/fsl_xcvr.c: fsl_xcvr_activate_ctl() is called from three places, one of which already holds card->controls_rwsem: 1. fsl_xcvr_mode_put(), a control put function, which will already be holding card->controls_rwsem. 2. fsl_xcvr_startup(), a DAI startup function. 3. fsl_xcvr_shutdown(), a DAI shutdown function. To fix this, fsl_xcvr_activate_ctl() has been changed to call snd_soc_card_get_kcontrol_locked() so that it is safe to call directly from fsl_xcvr_mode_put(). The fsl_xcvr_startup() and fsl_xcvr_shutdown() functions have been changed to take a read lock on card->controls_rsem() around calls to fsl_xcvr_activate_ctl(). While this is not very elegant, it keeps the change small, to avoid this patch creating a large collateral churn in fsl/fsl_xcvr.c. Analysis of other callers of snd_soc_card_get_kcontrol() is that they do not need any changes, they are not holding card->controls_rwsem when they call snd_soc_card_get_kcontrol(). ASoC: rockchip_i2s_tdm calibration clocking problem

Hi, I am hitting a clock issue with rockchip_i2s_tdm.c + simple-audio-card (+ RK3308). At boot the mclk clk_i2s0_8ch_tx is (somehow) initialized to some (unimportant?) value 50176000 Hz. Note that this frequency is not multiple of either 48kHz or 44.1kHz. Method asoc_simple_parse_clk() reads this value and sets it to simple_dai->sysclk.
