Renesas is the only user of ak4613 driver on upstream for now. It has STEREO/TDM512/TDM256/TDM128 mode, but STEREO only is used, because of Renesas board connection. I noticed that I can test first 2ch out of TDM256 mode 8ch Playback even in such a situation. [PATCH 1/6] - [PATCH 5/6] are prepare for TDM mode support. [PATCH 6/6] uses "ifdef style" to enable TDM because I can't test full TDM256 and/or other TDM mode. "ifdef style" has no effect to current supported STEREO mode. The CS35L41 Amplifier contains a DSP, capable of running firmware. The firmware can run algorithms such as Speaker Protection, to ensure that playback at high gains do not harm the speakers. Adding support for CS35L41 firmware into the CS35L41 HDA driver also allows us to support several extra features, such as hiberation and interrupts. The chain adds support in stages: - General fixes to improve generalization and code re-use inside the CS35L41 HDA driver. - Add support for interrupts into the driver, which is required for complete support of the firmware. - Refactor ASoC CS35L41 code which deals with firmware to allow for code re-use inside the CS35L41 HDA driver. - Add support for loading firmware and tuning files from file system, and creating alsa controls to control it. - Support firmware load paths for different hardware systems. - Support suspend/resume in the driver when using firmware. The firmware supports hibernation, which allows the CS35L41 to drop into a low power mode during suspend. - Support the ability to unload firmware, swap and reload the firmware. This is to allow different firmware to run during calibration. The intended use-case is to load the firmware once on boot, and the driver autmatically tries to load the firmware after it binds to the HDA driver. This behaviour can be switched off using a kconfig, if desired. This patch allow users to enable "ELD Bypass" who don't care anything from EDID Link Data. Currently, this driver gets ELD(from EDID) to constraint channels and rates. Unfortunately, EDID is not always valid, maybe caused by the fragile HDMI port or cable, in this situation, the max features are limited to 48kHz stereo. So, add this option to allow user to select the manual way to output audio as expected. such as multi-channels LPCM(7.1), or HBR bitstream for these sink devices. This series focuses on populating boards/ subdirectory with supported configurations by the avs-driver. Note: it is independent of recently provided "Driver code and PCM operations" series [1], that is, code found here should not collide with it. Series starts with a small change that adds a helper to sound pcm header, allowing for retrieving string naming a direction without the need of substream pointer. Said helper is used by codec driver code that follows it but I believe it's generic and helpful enough that it can be called an independent addition to the sound core. Code for generic HD-Audio codec driver follows. It is a ASoC wrapper for existing HD-Audio codec code found in sound/pci/hda/. There is basically no custom logic involved up to the point that driver follows HDA_DEV_LEGACY convention, rather than the HDA_DEV_ASOC one. Commit message for the given patch iterates on this and explains crucial parts of the implementation. >From there on is a range of boards appended. [RFC v2 31/39] sound: add HAS_IOPORT dependencies

In a future patch HAS_IOPORT=n will result in inb()/outb() and friends not being declared. We thus need to add HAS_IOPORT as dependency for those drivers using them. Currently, kernel/module annotates module dependencies when request_symbol is used, but it doesn't cover more complex inter-driver dependencies that are subsystem and/or driver-specific. In the case of hdmi sound, depending on the CPU/GPU, sometimes the snd_hda_driver can talk directly with the hardware, but sometimes, it uses the i915 driver. When the snd_hda_driver uses i915, it should first be unbind/rmmod, as otherwise trying to unbind/rmmod the i915 driver cause driver issues, as as reported by CI tools with different GPU models: https://intel-gfx-ci.01.org/tree/drm-tip/IGT_6415/fi-tgl-1115g4/igt@core_ho… https://intel-gfx-ci.01.org/tree/drm-tip/CI_DRM_11495/bat-adlm-1/igt@i915_m… In the past, just a few CPUs were doing such bindings, but this issue now applies to all "modern" Intel CPUs that have onboard graphics, as well as to the newer discrete GPUs. With the discrete GPU case, the HDA controller is physically separate and requires i915 to power on the hardware for all hardware access. In this case, the issue is hit basicly 100% of the time. With on-board graphics, i915 driver is needed only when the display codec is accessed. If i915 is unbind during runtime suspend, while snd-hda-intel is still bound, nothing bad happens, but unbinding i915 on other situations may also cause issues. So, add support at kernel/modules to allow snd-hda drivers to properly annotate when a dependency on a DRM driver dependencies exists, and add a call to such new function at the snd-hda driver when it successfully binds into the DRM driver. This would allow userspace tools to check and properly remove the audio driver before trying to remove or unbind the GPU driver. It should be noticed that this series conveys the hidden module dependencies. Other changes are needed in order to allow removing or unbinding the i915 driver while keeping the snd-hda-intel driver loaded/bound. With that regards, there are some discussions on how to improve this at alsa-devel a while back: https://mailman.alsa-project.org/pipermail/alsa-devel/2021-September/190099… So, future improvements on both in i915 and the audio drivers could be made. E.g. with discrete GPUs, it's the only codec of the card, so it seems feasible to detach the ALSA card if i915 is bound (using infra made for VGA switcheroo), but, until these improvements are done and land in upstream, audio drivers needs to be unbound if i915 driver goes unbind. Yet, even if such fixes got merged, this series is still needed, as it makes such dependencies more explicit and easier to debug.
