The patch ASoC: tlv320aic32x4: Model CODEC_CLKIN in CCF has been applied to the asoc tree at https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/broonie/sound.git All being well this means that it will be integrated into the linux-next tree (usually sometime in the next 24 hours) and sent to Linus during the next merge window (or sooner if it is a bug fix), however if problems are discovered then the patch may be dropped or reverted. You may get further e-mails resulting from automated or manual testing and review of the tree, please engage with people reporting problems and send followup patches addressing any issues that are reported if needed. If any updates are required or you are submitting further changes they should be sent as incremental updates against current git, existing patches will not be replaced. Hi, We have an ASoC driver in which we have added support for TDM over an I2S interface. We would like to have the capability of re-mapping the channel ordering, for which i know there is a callback in place to start this process, set_channel_map. The only backend implementation of this is using the ALSA API and the .copy handler in an ALSA PCM driver to mutate data copied out of ALSA before it's DMA'd to hardware. This is in sound/soc/blackfin/bf5xx-i2s-pcm.c The problem we have is that the driver we're using currently uses a dmaengine based PCM driver, and i'm not sure whether this is compatible with using the .copy callback, without reimplementing the driver entirely as an ALSA PCM driver. Since there aren't very many examples in mainline, I was hoping to ask for advice for the best way of doing this. I wondered: - Would it be possible to add a functional copy callback using a dmaengine based PCM driver? - Otherwise, would there be a good way to implement channel remapping in a TDM frame using the dmaengine based PCM driver? or - Would the best way indeed be to reimplement the PCM driver as a normal ALSA PCM driver? This is RFC patchset for Allwinner suniv F1C100s to support DMA and audio codec. Allwinner F1C100s has a audio codec that has necessary digital and analog parts. It has r-l headphone output and microphone, line, r-l FM inputs. ADC can capture any inputs and also output channels via mux. Any input channels or DAC samples can feed output channels. Add support for this audio codec. F1C100s utilizes DMA channels to send and receive ADC-DAC samples. So DMA support needed. Patch 1~5 adds support for DMA. Suniv F1C100s has very similar DMA to sun4i. But there is some dissimilarities also. Suniv features a DMA reset bit in clock control unit. It has smaller number of DMA channels. Several registers has different addresses. It's max burst size is 4 instead of 8. Also DMA endpoint numbers are different. Patch 6 adds DMA max burst option to sun4i-codec. Hello, I have an Acer Aspire 4736G laptop. The soundcard that is shipped in this laptop is intel-hda based as shown (actually it's a realtek): cat /proc/asound/cards 0 [Intel ]: HDA-Intel - HDA Intel HDA Intel at 0x9b300000 irq 46 Basic sound output is correct but few feature are missing: - internal mic seems to be found but do not works. - sound output stop working when trying to send it using HDMI output - heads do not work when plugged neither when forcing pulseaudio to use it. I have an ubuntu 10.10 which is shipped with alsa 1.0.23. [alsa-devel] Attempting to understand odd snd-usb-audio code and behavior

Over the last few weeks I've been trying to dig through the snd-usb-audio code to try to get an understanding of it. I've used ftrace and also a local version which I have heavily polluted with kprintf(KERN_INFO statements so I can track what it's doing in practice. I've been playing with this with some USB audio interfaces I have some which work, and some which don't, and trying to understand the differences and, ultimately, what I can do to make the non-functioning ones work. I've got to the point where I have a fairly good understanding of some parts, but I'm struggling to understand why the code is behaving as it does in practice. My observation when plugging the USB device in is that, as expected, it tries to build the audio device, and add components to it including attaching capture and playback streams. It seems to go through this phase without too many surprises, and we get to the standard dmesg output: usbcore: registered new interface driver snd-usb-audio After this, it gets confusing. It seems to open and close the PCMs (e.g, snd_usb_capture_open) several times in a row. Each time it sets up the hardware info, checks and sets the format and then closes the PCM. I don't see anything obviously different between most of these cycles. Certainly in non-working devices the pcm_pointer stays at zero and in working devices it increments. It also seems to try harder with some devices than others, even though the device descriptors seem very similar. Can anyone explain any of this to me, particularly why it's exhibiting this behaviour. My company (Silicon Labs) makes a CP2615 USB audio class 1.0 device which uses implicit feedback. I saw these two issues when testing with aplay/arecord/alsabat/alsaloop: * During playback-only operation, the implicit feedback (IN) endpoint was not active. * During play/record operation, the implicit feedback values were not acted on, i.e. the host always sent 192 bytes per OUT packet even if previous IN packets had been 188 or 196 bytes. This behavior was observed on these systems: RaspberryPi2: Raspbian 9 (stretch), kernel v4.14.72 x86-64: Ubuntu 18.04, kernel v4.15.0-36 I was able to get implicit feedback working properly in playback mode by adding a device-specific quirk to 'pcm.c' that is similar to existing quirks for implicit-feedback devices, e.g. M-Audio Fast Track Ultra. Hi, I am not sure if this is the right place to ask or if I should just submit a bugreport, but you guys helped me out with a similar problem about 10 years ago, so I'll try here first. If I'm wrong here, then I apologize, just let me know. I have an Acer Aspire Ethos 8951G notebook which has 6 built in speakers for 5.1 surround sound, it's a Realtek ALC669X. The problem is that only two speakers are recognized by default. I tried fiddling around with hdajackretast and it does make a difference, but I somehow could not find a step-by-step approach on how to figure out what is what and how to map everything correctly, so some guidance would be very much appreciated. I even ended up in situations where I got channels supporting only mute which would influence muting of other channels, I really got lost there.. Dear ALSA, In my ~/.asoundrc, I have lines like this: pcm.mic { type pulse; device "mic" } pcm.monitor { type pulse; device "monitor"; } pcm.music { type pulse; device "music"; } to make it easier for ALSA-aware programs to input and output via PulseAudio, e.g.: ecasound -i alsa,mic -o alsa,monitor -etd:... However, I would like to simplify this and not have to update ~/.asoundrc every time I create a new PulseAudio device. Since ALSA has the ability for PCMs to take a parameter, I thought this might work with the "pulse" PCM and the PulseAudio device name. But I get an "error: Invalid argument" when trying to pass the device name as an argument to the "pulse" PCM: $ ecasound -o alsa,pulse:music -i some.wav ... Thanks for reviewing the RFC patchset. Here is new patchset addressing all the comments from RFC. This patchset adds support for Qualcomm SoundWire Master Controller found in most of Qualcomm SoCs and WCD audio codecs. This driver along with WCD934x codec and WSA881x Class-D Smart Speaker Amplifier drivers is on DragonBoard DB845c based of SDM845 SoC. WCD934x and WSA881x patches will be posted soon. SoundWire controller on SDM845 is integrated in WCD934x audio codec via SlimBus interface. Currently this driver is very minimal and only supports PDM. Most of the code in this driver is rework of Qualcomm downstream drivers used in Andriod. Credits to Banajit Goswami and Patrick Lai's Team. TODO: Test and add PCM support. This series builds on the 'soundwire: add Master device support, GreyBus style' RFC'. It provides enhancements to the stream callbacks, a split initialization. Most of the SOF patches were already submitted in an earlier RFC, and feedback on the parameters was taken into account. The main change here are the API changes with a split between ACPI scan, probe, startup steps. Known limits: a) Power management (regular suspend/resume and pm_runtime) is not supported for now as we need to run additional checks on hardware. This will be provided as a separate series. b) during validation checks on CML/ICL, initialization and playback/capture worked fine, but we observed a reproducible system freeze while doing load/unload tests, so likely an initialization missing or a leak to be fixed. I am using Takashi Iwai's tree grafted onto mainline as DKMS ( as in https://github.com/HinTak/sound-usb-dkms ). Running the alsa compliance test commit f6167eb77d038b5b7a0d39645e7f2ae7fee6fdc0 (origin/stabilize-12464.B, origin/release-R78-12499.B) Capture all passed, but play back failed a couple, regarding the sample rate. It is a small head set with stereo head phone and a mic. ID 046d:0a38 Logitech, Inc. Headset H340 The question is, for such a cheap headset, why would the playback rate and the capture rate to be different? For many applications/ usages, with a device that's most capture and playback capable, we would like the rates to agree - both pass, or both fail in the same direction? Is this a hardware or software issue? This patch adds support for the 8 channel PDM-to-I2S/TDM converter. The ADAU7118 converts four stereo pulse density modulation (PDM) bitstreams into one pulse code modulation (PCM) output stream. The source for the PDM data can be eight microphones or other PDM sources. The PCM audio data is output on a serial audio interface port in either inter-IC serial (I2S) or time domain multiplexed (TDM) format. How do I get alsa to recognise 181VSL as it is found by lsusb so it is presnet on the system. It used to work fine but alsa just stopped working with 1818VSL recently for no reason. I know this is a developers group, but please at least answer where I can get help. Alsa help is absolutely non-existing. I also posted a bug with no response in another thread. Thanks.

Below Oops is caused in a system which uses ACPI instead of device node: of_get_named_gpiod_flags: can't parse 'maxim,reset-gpio' property of node '(null)[0]' BUG: kernel NULL pointer dereference, address: 0000000000000010 This patch avoids NULL pointer deferencing by adding a check before parsing and initializes to make reset-gpio pin as invalid. As of commit 648e921888ad ("clk: x86: Stop marking clocks as CLK_IS_CRITICAL"), the cht_bsw_rt5645 driver needs to enable the clock it's using for the codec's mclk. It does this from commit 7735bce05a9c ("ASoC: Intel: boards: use devm_clk_get() unconditionally"), enabling pmc_plt_clk_3. However, Strago family Chromebooks use pmc_plt_clk_0 for the codec mclk, resulting in white noise with some digital microphones. Add a DMI-based quirk for Strago family Chromebooks to use pmc_plt_clk_0 instead - mirroring the changes made to cht_bsw_max98090_ti in commit a182ecd3809c ("ASoC: intel: cht_bsw_max98090_ti: Add quirk for boards using pmc_plt_clk_0") and making use of the existing dmi_check_system() call and related infrastructure added in commit 22af29114eb4 ("ASoC: Intel: cht-bsw-rt5645: add quirks for SSP0/AIF1/AIF2 routing").
