When calling debugfs functions, there is no need to ever check the return value. The function can work or not, but the code logic should never do something different based on this. Also, if a debugfs call fails, userspace is notified with an error in the log, so no need to log the error again. We shouldn't assume CPU physical address we get from page_to_phys() is same as DMA address we get from dma_alloc_coherent(). On x86_64, we won't run into any problem with the assumption when dma_ops is nommu_dma_ops. However, DMA address is IOVA when IOMMU is enabled. And it's most likely different from CPU physical address when AMD IOMMU is not in passthrough mode. Hi all, I am trying to learn more about ALSA, I always used example found in the howtos but now I would go further. I went though ALSA documentation ( https://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-doc/alsa-lib/pcm.html) and in the specific the transfer methods. Basically I don't understand the advantages of using poll instead of traditional blocking read/write. Generally I know that using poll I can multiplex I/O on several files, but in ALSA I cannot create the poll descriptor array as I want, as I must use snd_pcm_poll_descriptors() which requires that the poll descriptor array should have the size returned by snd_pcm_poll_descriptors_count(). Am I supposed to realloc the poll array descriptor once I set it up with ALSA, and add my own files? Should I then always check poll array descriptor with snd_pcm_poll_descriptors_revents() before checking my own files? And in this case it is safe to call snd_pcm_poll_descriptors_revents() with a poll array descriptor bigger than the size returned by snd_pcm_poll_descriptors_count()? Many thanks in advance.

This is the second take on same problem of detecting when the HDaudio legacy driver can be used and when the SST or SOF drivers are required. The previous attempt based on a the PCI Class information was a resounding failure and broke audio on Linus' laptop, so we need additional information to avoid enabling a DSP-based driver without a good reason to do so. This patchset suggests the use of the NHLT information which *in theory* exposes DMIC endpoints. The legacy HDaudio driver cannot handle DMICs and will not provide any capture capabilities. Since it's typically the first one to probe due to the Makefile order, aborting the probe will let the PCI subsystem look for the next driver which hopefully will support this capability. I tested this patch on 5 devices (SKL, KBL, APL, GLK, WHL), three without DMICs and two with, and the detection seems to work as planned. Additional testing by Canonical and Endless folks did not expose any issues.
