The soc_compr_copy callback is currently broken. Since the changes to move the compr_ops over to the component the return value is not correctly propagated, always returning zero on success rather than the number of bytes copied. This causes user-space to stall continuously reading as it does not believe it has received any data. Furthermore, the changes to move the compr_ops over to the component iterate through the list of components and will call the copy callback for any that have compressed ops. There isn't currently any consensus on the mechanism to combine the results of multiple copy callbacks. To fix this issue for now halt searching the component list when we locate a copy callback and return the result of that single callback. Additional work should probably be done to look at the other ops, tidy things up, and work out if we want to support multiple components on a single compressed, but this is the only fix required to get things working again. The patch ASoC: Intel: Skylake: Add ssp clock driver has been applied to the asoc tree at https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/broonie/sound.git All being well this means that it will be integrated into the linux-next tree (usually sometime in the next 24 hours) and sent to Linus during the next merge window (or sooner if it is a bug fix), however if problems are discovered then the patch may be dropped or reverted. Example: for few chrome systems, codec needs the mclk/sclk to be enabled early for a successful clock synchronization and for few IVI platforms, clock need to be enabled at boot and should be ON always. Add the required structures and create set_dma_control ipc to enable or disable the clock. To enable sclk without fs, mclk ipc structure is used, else sclkfs ipc structure is used. Clock prepare/unprepare are used to enable/disable the clock as the IPC will be sent in non-atomic context. The clk set_dma_control IPC structures are populated during the set_rate callback and IPC is sent to enable the clock during prepare callback. This patch creates virtual clock driver, which allows the machine driver to use the clock interface to send IPCs to DSP to enable/disable the clocks. For certain platforms, clocks (mclk/sclk/fs) are required to be up before the stream start. Example: some codecs needs the mclk/sclk/fs to be enabled early for a successful clock synchronization. Some platforms require clock to be enabled at boot and be always ON. By sending set_dma_control IPC (with the i2s blobs queried from NHLT), these clocks can be enabled early after the firmware is downloaded. With this series, a virtual clock driver is created which provides interface to send the required IPCs from machine driver to enable the clocks. NHLT is parsed during probe and the clock information is populated. The pointer to blob is cached and sent along with the set_dma_control IPC structure during the clk prepare/unprepare callback. Clocks are created for a ssp if the nhlt table has endpoint configuration for that particular ssp. For certain platforms, clocks (mclk/sclk/fs) are required to be up before the stream start. Example: some codecs needs the mclk/sclk/fs to be enabled early for a successful clock synchronization. Some platforms require clock to be enabled at boot and be always ON. By sending set_dma_control IPC (with the i2s blobs queried from NHLT), these clocks can be enabled early after the firmware is downloaded. With this series, a virtual clock driver is created which provides interface to send the required IPCs from machine driver to enable the clocks. NHLT is parsed during probe and the clock information is populated. The pointer to blob is cached and sent along with the set_dma_control IPC structure during the clk prepare/unprepare callback. Clocks are created for a ssp if the nhlt table has endpoint configuration for that particular ssp. The soc_compr_copy callback is currently broken. Since the changes to move the compr_ops over to the component the return value is not correctly propagated, always returning zero on success rather than the number of bytes copied. This causes user-space to stall continuously reading as it does not believe it has received any data. Furthermore, the changes to move the compr_ops over to the component iterate through the list of components and will call the compressed operation for any that have compressed ops. However, there would be signifcantly more work required to support such a system. There isn't currently any sensible mechanism to forward the ops to multiple components. For example what should be done about merging data from copy? Or what should be returned through the pointer call, each component may have different amounts of data available, but user-space expects a single answer? As such clean up the code a little by factoring out the search for the relevant component and bring things back to looking for a single component that supports compressed ops on a single runtime. These refactorings also put back the original handling for the copy callback, correcting the return value. Commit 3bb0f7c31b1a ("ASoC: don't use snd_soc_write/read on twl4030") caused regressions for both twl4030 and twl6040 as it assumes the ASoC driver is using regmap. As a side effect, this also causes a considerable increase in idle power consumption omap3 boards using twl4030 as the PMIC. This is because the removal of read and write function pointers causes some of the ASoC IO functions to not do anything. For example, snd_soc_register_card() calls snd_soc_dapm_new_widgets() that calls snd_soc_codec_drv_read() that now does nothing. A long term solution suggested by Mark Brown <broonie(a)kernel.org> is to make the twl drivers use regmap by adding a call to snd_soc_codec_set_regmap(). This however needs more consideration as currently the driver internal reads do caching and we would have both regmap access and internal read/write access accessing the same hardware registers. So to fix the regression, let's just do a partial revert adding back the read and write function pointers. Note that other non-regmap ASoC drivers may need similar patches. Hello everyone, Here is a first series to add support for the capture for Allwinner Sun8I-A33 SoC (sun8i-codec). These patches have been tested on Sun8i-r16 parrot board and the two microphones are working well. Noticed that the DAPM route is not correct: "Right/Left Digital ADC Mixer" widgets should be after the "Right ADC" (according to what I understood from the datasheet). This is currently not the case but when I tried to update it, I got an error about "failing to add routes". I will investigate why in next weeks (and send a V2) but as it can take time, I think it is better to send a V1 and got reviews (because it is the first time I am implementing such features). I've found that on Google's "Kevin" Chromebook, the rt5514 codec might not be set up completely, yet its device is still present, and therefore its PM suspend/resume is called. This hits a NULL pointer exception, since we never had the chance to set our drvdata pointer. This resolves crashes seen when trying to resume my system.
