[alsa-devel] [PATCH v2] sound: Disable the build of OSS drivers

OSS drivers are left as badly unmaintained, and now we're facing a problem to clean up the hackish set_fs() usage in their codes. Since most of drivers have been covered by ALSA, and the others are dead old and inactive, let's leave them RIP. This patch is the first step: disable the build of OSS drivers. Oh hai! I'm trying to get sound from my HP Chromebook 13 with proper linux and right now messing with ASoC topology: ChromeOS contains topology file that can't be loaded on up-to-date upstream kernel, so I've wrote a parser that converts dfw_sst.bin back to topology.conf that can be processed by `alsatplg`. AFAICS alsatplg miscompiles at least UUID field in the private data: for example `alsatplg -c /usr/share/alsa/topology/sklrt286/skl_i2s.conf -o tplg.bin` produces the file with no UUID in `strings tplg.bin` output and my parser shows that there is nonsense (mostly zeroes) where UUID should be (reproducible with both alsa-{lib,utils}-1.13 and current git master). Is it a bug or I'm doing something wrong? -- //wbr ojab

Hi all, I have been attempting to build up as much information as possible on the 2nd gen 6i6 in the hopes someone on the mailing list will be able to find a quick fix. The device is usable under linux only as a 2ch output device in it's current state using snd_usb_audio . And only if you have set Hardware mixer routing from the Proprietary Focus-rite app in Mac OSX or Windows first. The following link contains various USB Capture dumps doing different things with the DAC in various sates. There appears to be something odd with the way it enumerates sub devices on the USB port so attempts to pass-through to a Win10 VM via KVM fail. I think I can probably get this working if I pass the underlying PCI root device controlling the USB hub in it's entirety but haven't been able to do this yet. It also looks like there is a firmware load event happening somewhere. I am hoping the lsusb and the wireshark USB pcap dumps at the link might be of use to someone more familiar with alsa. Any help or requests for more information gladly accepted. hdac_wait_for_cmd_dmas() uses a jiffie timeout to ensure that we do not wait forever for stuck hardware. However, it is called from an irq-disabled context which prevents jiffie from advancing and so the loop doesn't terminate if the hardware fails. The main change from v1 is that now the PCM devices are associated with ports instead of pipes, so the audio from one device always gets output on the same display. BTW I did notice that with LPE audio all the controls say iface=PCM, whereas on HDA a bunch of them say iface=MIXER. The commit [22eca6468b4a: pcm: dmix: Allow disabling x86 optimizations] introduced the new flag for dmix & co, direct_memory_access. However, it turned out that such an addition of the new flag in the default pcm definition causes an error when it's used with old alsa-lib codes. Although the code added here is correct, per se, and it works as expected, it's not wise to break the configuration with old stuff -- even if the usage is somehow incorrect and should be avoided. Since the usage of the new flag is only for HDMI LPE audio, and the usage of dmix itself should be limited with that hardware, this patch removes the setup so that it works with the old alsa-lib again. We may introduce the dmix behavior change in a smarter way, e.g. passing some flag from the hardware driver so that it works more generically without the manual fiddling of config files. So snd_soc_set_dmi_name will try to get vendor name from DMI_SYS_VENDOR at first, and if that's null, then use DMI_BOARD_VENDOR. Hi, Nice to see DMI info being attached to SoC sound devices so that we can differentiate between differerent products in userspace, thanks for the effort there. However I just noticed that it using DMI_BOARD_VENDOR. Is this intentional? I have several examples of products here where DMI_BOARD_VENDOR is not set to a meaningful value, but DMI_SYS_VENDOR is just fine. DMI quirks in the kernel ordinarily tend to match products by combining DMI_SYS_VENDOR with DMI_PRODUCT_NAME. In the SMBIOS data format, Type 1 (System information) includes DMI_SYS_VENDOR and DMI_PRODUCT_NAME. Type 2 (Base board information) includes DMI_BOARD_VENDOR and DMI_BOARD_NAME. See dmi_decode() in drivers/firmware/dmi_scan.c It seems strange that ASoC is pulling the product name from Type 1 but the vendor from type 2. Can we make it instead just use Type 1 data, DMI_SYS_VENDOR and DMI_PRODUCT_NAME? Thanks Daniel

This patch-set handles the Serial Audio Interface (SAI) IP on STM32 platforms. The SAI IP is composed of two Sub-block A and B. (see the figure below) Each sub-block makes use of individual and shared resources. Shared resources: - Reset line. Reset common and sub-block registers. - Bus interface clocks. This clock is not exposed in device as it it managed by clock driver, according to kernel clocks gating. - Common register. SAI IP exhibits a common configuration register to manage synchronization modes. NB: These modes are not yet implemented in this version of the SAI driver. - Interrupt. Sub-blocks have their own interrupt status registers but they share the same interrupt line. Individual resources: - Register set - DMA request line. - Communication interface. Each sub-block has its own GPIOs and associated bus lines. - Kernel clock. Each sub-block has its own dedicated clock for its communication interface. To reflect this architecture Sub-block A and B are handled by 2 child devices. Sub-block A and B devices can be configured independently either as transmitter or receiver. A PCM device is associated to each sub-block. A sub-block has to select the appropriated parent clock at runtime, depending on the audio stream sampling rate to be played or captured. Two parent clocks must be provided to support sampling rates multiples of 8 kHz or 11.025kHz. Hello, We would like to contribute with an audio codec file for the well known Philips TDA1543 dac chip. We have already made a PR for Raspbian with Raspberry Pi specific driver that is well suited together with this codec.
