[alsa-devel] [PATCH 1/7] ASoC: wm9705: Remove unused DAI ID defines

The DAI ID defines are back from the time when DAIs were referenced by a numerical ID. These days a string is used for matching instead and the defines are unused. The last user of these defines was removed in commit f0fba2ad1b6b ("ASoC: multi-component - ASoC Multi-Component Support"). So remove the defines as well. This also means the wm9705.h file no longer has any content and can be removed. This fix allows to play audio while HDMI is disconnected. When HDMI is disable, audio configuration is stored and samples are dropped (by HDMI IP). When HDMI is enabled, audio HDMI configuration is applied and samples are outputted on HDMI wire. When trying to get the pid or card of a client, the get functions will return -1 if there is no pid or card for a client. Clients have zero or one of these, so -1 is correct for these cases. But we also need to detect the case where the kernel cannot tell us if there is a card or pid, so that userspace can fallback to probing this information in the old way. The name of a codec pin can have an optional prefix string, which is defined by the audio machine driver. The snd_soc_dapm_x_pin functions take the fully-specified name including the prefix and so the existing code would fail to find the pin if the audio machine driver had added a prefix. This patch chain adds new helper functions that take a non-prefixed name for a specific ASoC component and internally add that component's prefix. The other patches update the arizona drivers to use these new functions. From: Andreas Pape <apape(a)de.adit-jv.com> Plugin file provides no private hw_ptr and appl_ptr but instead links them to the slave pcm. If the slave pcm itself changes its hw_ptr or app_prt this needs to be done in file plugin, too. Plugin 'plug' is such a candidate changing the hw_ptr and app_ptr in hw_params call dependent on the automatically inserted plugins. ALSA unfortunately has no support for automatically updating chained pointers. A notification on pointer change seems to be prepared inside the snd_pcm_set_ptr() routine via rbptr->changed(), but it is not (yet) implemented so that we need to care for it manually. When attempting to change sample rate for the interface after first set-play cycle, the change is not reflected to the hardware, while from user space everything seems to go fine. This patch fixes the issue and the driver now behaves the same way as for example the USB Audio Class driver.

Media Device Allocator API to allows multiple drivers share a media device. Using this API, drivers can allocate a media device with the shared struct device as the key. Once the media device is allocated by a driver, other drivers can get a reference to it. The media device is released when all the references are released. Patches 0001 and 0002 are rebased to 4.9-rc7. Patch 0003 for snd-usb-audio is a rebase of the patch that was tested with the original Media Device Allocator patch series. snd-usb-audio patch includes the fixes found during 4.7-rc1 time in the original snd-usb-audio patch. Changes to patch 0001 since v3: - Fixed undefined reference to `__media_device_usb_init compile error when CONFIG_USB is disabled. - Fixed kernel paging error when accessing /dev/mediaX after rmmod of the module that owns the media_device. The fix bumps the reference count for the owner when second driver comes along to share the media_device. If au0828 owns the media_device, then snd_usb_audio will bump the refcount for au0828, so it won't get deleted and vice versa. Changes to patch 0003 since the last version in 4.7-rc1: - Included fixes to bugs found during testing. - Updated to use the Media Allocator API. This patch series has been tested with au0828 and snd-usb-audio drivers. Ran bind and unbind loop tests on each driver with mc_nextgen_test and media_device_test app loop tests while checking lsmod and dmesg. Please refer to tools/testing/selftests/media_tests/regression_test.txt for testing done on this series.
