Hi, Vinod: as I promised: https://lkml.org/lkml/2015/5/8/80 With this series it is possible to put omap-dma or edma to even late_initcall and the drivers will figure out the load order fine(ish). We need to add dma_request_slave_channel_compat_reason() which is the equivalent of dma_request_slave_channel_compat() but returning with error codes in case of failure instead of NULL pointer. The rest of the series just converts the OMAP/daVinci drivers to use this new function to get the channel(s) and to handle the deferred probing. I did not moved the omap-dma, edma or ti-dma-crossbar from arch_initcall. If I do so UART will only comes up after the DMA driver is loaded since we are using, or going to use 8250 with DAM support. This delays the kernel messages. Other issue is the MMC/SD cards. On board with eMMC and SD card slot the mmcblk0/1 might get swapped due to different probe order for the MMC/SD drivers. For example in omap5-uevm: 1. omap-dma in arch_initcall the SD card is mmcblk1 (4809c000.mmc) and eMMC is mmcblk0 (480b4000.mmc) 2. omap-dma in late_initcall the SD card is mmcblk0 (4809c000.mmc) and eMMC is mmcblk1 (480b4000.mmc) Because in case 1 the 4809c000.mmc got deferred by missing regulator so 480b4000.mmc got registered first. In case 2 both deferring because of DMA and at the end 4809c000.mmc get registered first. So far I have not found a way to bind mmcblk0/1 to a specific node... According to the datasheet RESET is active low pin, i.e. system goes to reset state when pin is low. Handle logic state correctly - set reset_pin to logical 0 at boot time, and set it to logical 1 when we need to reset the chip. After several open/close sai test with ctrl+c, there will be I/O error. The SAI can't work anymore, can't recover. There will be no frame clock. With adding the software reset in trigger stop, the issue can be fixed. Commit 70762abb9f89 ("i2c: Use stable dev_name for ACPI enumerated I2C slaves") broke the lm-sensors which relies on I2C hwmon slave devices under /sys/bus/i2c/devices/ to be named as "x-00yz". However if those hwmon devices are ACPI 5 enumerated their name became "i2c-INTABCD:ij" and sysfs code in lm-sensors does not find them anymore: lib/sysfs.c:665: if ((!subsys || !strcmp(subsys, "i2c")) && sscanf(dev_name, "%hd-%x", &entry.chip.bus.nr, &entry.chip.addr) == 2) { This patch fixes this by reverting back the old device naming in i2c-core but at the same avoids regression to ALSA SoC drivers that depend on stable device binding. Reverted I2C slave device naming is handled in ALSA SoC core by using the ACPI name as a component name if device is ACPI probed. This keeps the component binding in ALSA SoC stable and requires only minimal changes to affected machine drivers. I didn't check exact kernel versions where this still applies but I know we would need a few different versions for older stable versions. Mainly because of added and moved drivers in sound/soc/intel/. This is for discussion so I didn't cc stable(a)vger.kernel.org yet. I was thinking would it work if we'd keep the stable name but have an another symlink in /sys/bus/i2c/devices/ that uses "x-00yz" name. However this feels ill-use of devices directory and probably causes more troubles elsewhere. I don't know how common ACPI enumerated I2C hwmon devices are but I guess they exists since Dustin notices this issue and wrote "With that change, /sys/bus/i2c/devices/i2c-0-004a, for example, became /sys/bus/i2c/devices/i2c-PNPXXXX:xx". It could be possible there is use for the new device naming. The SKL driver does not code DSP topology in driver. With this series the soc topology framework is used to parse the topology information to create widgets, controls and route map for the FW topology. It adds routines for SKL DSP module configuration, add building blocks to instanatiate modules and pipes. It uses SKL IPC library added earlier to send IPC for initialize the module, bind/unbind modules, create pipeline and manage them. Last patch in this series removes the unused dais. For i.MX6 SoloX, there is a mode of the SoC to shutdown all power source of modules during system suspend and resume procedure. Thus, SAI needs to save all the values of registers before the system suspend and restore them after the system resume. The DSDT has wrongly SPI=1 as chipselect, either the firmware (DSDT) must be updated or a correct patch enables the spi master/slave init here. I hope or expect that when the spi slave will be init correctly, that the device would also work. The ACPI stuff is already done here, and I am running out of time.
