Although the McASP supports sign-extending samples in RX or TX [1]; the davinci-mcasp driver does not touch the {R,X}PBIT or {R,X}PAD field of the {R,X}FMT registers meaning that the McASP will serialize the bytes it is given regardless of their signedness. So supporting unsigned formats is as simple as adding them to the metadata of the davinci-mcasp driver. Update the FMTBITs reported in the snd_soc_dai_driver and also update the case statements in davinci-mcasp's hw_params() function so that the McASP can be connected to CODECs that use unsigned values. [alsa-devel] support for IDT 92HD89E codec

Hi! I have a sounccard with the IDT 92HD89E codec, or at least I thought so, when I run the alsa-info script I get the IDT ID 76c7 returned as the codec. However none of them seem to be supported by alsa, are there plans to support these codecs in the future? I am running the latest version of debian stable and have version 1.0.21 of the driver and version 1.0.23 of the library and utilities running. regards Andreas Berglund

[alsa-devel] How to add a new MIDI device to the usbaudio driver

I have just received a new MIDI instrument (Starr Labs Z7S) which is not recognized by the kernel, and I'd like to add support for it. I'm hoping that it uses a standard MIDI interface and it's just a matter of adding the correct entry in the table of devices. I have tried to add an entry to sound/usb/usbquirks.h (sound/usb/quirks-table.h in later kernels), but so far I haven't succeeded. Is there any documentation for how to do this, and which options to use? Google hasn't really turned up anything... -- Kristian

Hi! The good news is that I have 122mkII to play with, the bad news is that it doesn't work with the snd_usb_122l driver. The probe function fails most likely in usb_stream_start(&us122l->sk), The dmesg output: ... status=-2 status=-2 us122l_start error -14 snd-usb-us122l: probe of 1-2:1.1 failed with error -22 usbcore: registered new interface driver snd-usb-us122l ... I've set up a windows machine with usbsnoop and captured the init log (I could upload it somewhere if anybody is interested). I would probably be able to help fix/write the driver with some guidance. Just now I'm trying to understand the log... PS: I've send this mail to alsa-devel a couple of days ago, but without being subscribed, does anybody do the screening on incomming mails? -- Cyril Hrubis

This is done only in single-purpose command-line programs like arecordmidi. When you have other events, you collect the file descriptors of all your devices/pipes/whatever, and wait for all of them in a poll()-based loop. How does your program handle events?
