The SPDIF in audio widget must be searched through the list as the widget
that contains the given pin as the connection source. The current code
was implemented in a reverse way.

[alsa-devel] [PATCH] include/adriver.h: Define pr_warn to allow compilation against older kernels
by Luke Yelavich 24 Sep '10
by Luke Yelavich 24 Sep '10
24 Sep '10
From: Luke Yelavich <luke.yelavich(a)canonical.com>
In my testing of the daily tarball, I am unable to build against 2.6.32. I
assume that older kernels would be affected in a similar way.

[alsa-devel] Spurious "Unable to find definition 'defaults.pcm.dmix.device'"
by Gavin Stark 24 Sep '10
by Gavin Stark 24 Sep '10
24 Sep '10
I am using ALSA in a gstreamer project. When playing many videos (with audio) in the same application and the same gstreamer instance every once in a while (maybe once every 500 times) I will receive the following errors (in a call chain that passes through snd_pcm_open)
confmisc.c:1286:snd_func_refer: alsalib error: Unable to find definition 'defaults.pcm.dmix.device'
alsa conf.c:4154:_snd_config_evaluate: alsalib error: function snd_func_refer returned error: No such file or directory
alsa conf.c:4633:snd_config_expand: alsalib error: Evaluate error: No such file or directory
alsa pcm.c:2211:snd_pcm_open_noupdate: alsalib error: Unknown PCM default
The next playback will be fine. Looking through the ALSA code it seems that the configuration data should be cached and re-used unless the number of config files changes, or the files themselves change (name, device, inode. mtime) So I am wonder why on one instance of snd_pcm_open I'd end up with this error but not on most previous or subsequent calls.
All the ALSA configuration files are the defaults, I have no ~/.asoundrc, and I'm running version 1.0.23
Thank you,
Gavin Stark

Hi All,
I am trying to write ALSA driver for my audio card. I have initial driver
version in place.
aplay -l gives:
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: default [], device 0: myMonoCard []
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
and aplay -L gives:
default:CARD=default
Default Audio Device
null
Discard all samples (playback) or generate zero samples (capture)
It seems to me that all looks good here but when I try:
aplay 101a.4.wav
Calling open method in the mono driver! (Output from my driver open method)
Calling hw_free method (Output from my driver hw_free method)
Calling close method in the mono driver! (Output from my driver close
method)
aplay: main:608: audio open error: Invalid argument
All my open method does is this:
int ret;
struct snd_pcm_runtime *runtime = substream->runtime;
printk ("Calling open method in the mono driver!\n");
/*Associate the hardware capabilities of this PCM component */
runtime->hw = monocard_playback_mono;
return 0;
and my struct snd_pcm_hardware monocard_playback_mono = {
.info = (SNDRV_PCM_INFO_BLOCK_TRANSFER |
SNDRV_PCM_INFO_RESUME |
SNDRV_PCM_INFO_PAUSE),
.formats = SNDRV_PCM_FMTBIT_S16_LE |
SNDRV_PCM_FMTBIT_S16_BE |
SNDRV_PCM_FMTBIT_S8 |
SNDRV_PCM_FMTBIT_U8,
.rates = SNDRV_PCM_RATE_CONTINUOUS,
.rate_min = 8000,
.rate_min = 48000,
.channels_min = 1,
.channels_max = 1,
.buffer_bytes_max=32768,
I am not sure if alsa-lib is saying that one of these arguments is invalid
or what?
Thank you
Ogi

[alsa-devel] [PATCH] ASoC: Fix incorrect parameter to snd_soc_codec_volatile_register
by Dimitris Papastamos 23 Sep '10
by Dimitris Papastamos 23 Sep '10

We need to pass the register index and not the register value.
This patch depends on my previous patch "ASoC: Delegate to hw
specific read for volatile registers".

Hi,
I am trying to cross-compile alsa-lib. As a result of building alsa-lib I
get libasound.so file. However, if I try using aplay or anything that uses
alsa I get:
ALSA lib conf.c:2700:(snd_config_hooks_
call) Cannot open shared library libasound_module_conf_pulse.so
ALSA lib control.c:909:(snd_ctl_open_noupdate) Invalid CTL hw:0
I am not sure how to build libasound_module_conf_pulse.so. I see that the
code for this library is in the alsa-lib folder.
Thnak you
Ogi

Hello
I've found the following patch is necessary to enable line-in on
my MacBookPro 5,3 machine. With the patch applied I've successfully
recorded audio from the line-in jack. This is based on the existing
5,5 support.
Below is the patch, plus the codec#0 file.

Hi, I'm running Alsa on an embedded platform, Beagleboard, which uses an OMAP3530 chip. The platform uses the TWL4030 ASoC driver. I'm trying to find a way to modify the audio rate register values to force sampling rates other than 44.1 kHz and 48 kHz. I'm running the Angstrom Linux Distro on the board. Alsa is running fine on the board, I'm trying to avoid using "hw:0,0" to make sure that I'm running the audio chip at the specified rate instead of having ALSA resample my audio. Currently I can see that the audio card supports only 48 kHz and 44.1 kHZ, but I know that it supports 32kHz and 16kHz. I managed to find the Codec_Register listing under the /sys/ directory and I'm trying to set the "codec_reg" register to the proper value to run the chip at 32kHz. Basically when I run "cat /sys/devices/platform/soc-audio/codec_reg" register 0x1 reads 0x91 which from the datasheet means the sampling rate = 44.1kHz. I'm trying to set register 0x1 to 0x81 to force it to run at 32 kHz. but the "echo 1 81 > codec_reg" command is apparently not supported and from the angstrom the register is read-only I even tried chmod +w the register but that didn't work.
I tried using debugfs to modify the register value unfortunately the functionality isn't available through that. I found a few listings online of ALSA patches that expose the register during debugfs, after copying and pasting them I still couldn't access the register. When I tried modifying the twl4030.c driver in the openembedded directory linux-omap-2.6.28/git/audio/soc/twl4030.c by basically hardcoding the reigster value to 0x81 it still didn't work.
I'm running the 2.6.28 Linux kernel. can anyone share some advice ???
