Hi, FYI, I merged now patches to support hrtimer backend of ALSA timer to sound git tree (have waited until 1.0.18 release :), which has been in sound-unstable tree for a while. It seems working fine with my testing using aplaymidi & co, but if you see any problems with this update, please let me know. Another patches I'd like to merge soonish for 2.6.29 is the AC97 audio/modem integration stuff. They are found in topic/modem-integrate branch on sound git tree. If you see any problems with it, let me know it as well. thanks, Takashi

[alsa-devel] [ANNOUNCE] patch for INTEL HDMI codec

Hello, We have recently enabled sound output for Intel HDMI codecs, and would like to share the good news and some early code :-) The audio enabling code includes both ALSA and X.Org patches. Attached is one single patch against today's sound-2.6 tree. It contains very basic code for handling - audio infoframe - ELD(E-EDID Like Data) - unsolicited response The patch is full enough to produce stereo sound via HDMI. But it still lacks features and contains many 'defined but unused' staffs. It was tested OK on ASUS P5E-VM board and HP 2230s notebook. It _should_ also work on Intel DG45ID board. Takashi, I can prepare a trimmed-down patch series, in doing so I'd like to know if you are interested in the basic DIP/ELD/UNSOL routines? Or should I only submit bare code comparable to the current patch_atihdmi.c? [alsa-devel] snd-hda-intel prevents machine to power off

Hi Takashi, If I have some process with the sound device opened in my eeepc (say KDE's kmix) and try to power off the machine, for example with: # echo o > /proc/sysrq-trigger The machine will not power off. But it does work if I remove the snd-hda-intel module before issuing the echo above. This problem seems to be pretty popular among distros, I could find it reported for Mandriva, Ubuntu and Fedora. Its workaround is also documented in a few wikis: people are doing a 'rmmod snd-hda-intel' in the last halt stage (ie, halt script in etc). I have tested with 2.6.27.4 and latest 2.7.28-rc2. [alsa-devel] Definition of frame

I want to clarify my understanding regarding the definition of frame in Alsa lingo. For a "stereo" DAC channel with 16-bit samples, number of bytes per frame = 4 bytes, correct? basically L & R samples each 16 bit, 16 * 2 = 32 bits = 4 bytes. Reason being alsa-lib APIs use number of frames instead of bytes and I want to make sure I compute right number of frames. Thanks, Bankim
