hgcompile would do autoconf, etc, so you don't have to call it
manually.

You can put alsa-driver and alsa-kernel in the same directory level.
Make in alsa-driver will create a symlink automatically from
../alsa-kernel.

By any reason, the alsa-driver tree appears inconsistent with
alsa-kernel tree.  Could you pull again?
If it still doesn't work, try hg.alsa-project.org instead.

Or try my daily snapshot tarball.  You can use configure instead of 
hgcompile there.
